MLB Draft Official Discussion Thread

Happy draft day, all. Anything draft-related, let's talk about it here.

Which players are you most looking forward to seeing where they get drafted?

For me:

1) Bren Spillane - not likely to go off the board until Day 2 (3rd-10th round), he's an Illini and has impressive power.
2) Jordyn Adams - two sport five-tool athlete, will take a hefty paycheck to get him to pass on football.
3) Luke Heimlich - you already know about his history and if ANY team drafts him, it'll generate some SERIOUS controversy, to put it mildly. I doubt he'll go off the board, but you never know.

FYI - I got word the following players will be in attendance in the studio tonight, so hopefully we can expect them to have Draft Night autos in Bowman Draft:

Alec Bohm
Travis Swaggerty
Tristan Casas
Xavier Edwards
Anthony Siegler
Carter Stewart

That Jordyn Adams kid looks GOOD man. Im with Jaypers- interested to see if someone goes out and tries to get him early.

Also, kinda surprised Nick Decker won't be in attendance. Hes from NJ, albeit not near Secaucus, but should go towards end of first or in Supplemental Round. Kid has some pop.

Fingers crossed the Braves get Gorman

Also, not sure what to think on the Heimlich thing. Lots of varying stories now. How long does a kid have to live with something?

Well if you’re the kid he molested, I guess the answer is forever?

Heimlich unfortunately probably won't get drafted again. I don't see where anything changed that would totally change things.

I am very interested in seeing what the Indians can do to reload with there 1st picks obviously time to start looking towards the future with so many guys that potentially will be gone the next couple years.

Excited to see where the top D3 guys land. Always love the D3 guys

I am actually going to be paying attention to this draft, my nephews best friend committed to playing for ODU but said to us last night that if he gets drafted today he will have a big decision to make. His name is Jacob Wetzel and he attended the Houston Astros pre-draft camp last week and he said he had a blast!!

I'm with you. I played D3 ball and my roommate got drafted by the Braves in the 13th round in 2013. Also played against Bruce Maxwell who is with the big club in Oakland. Lots of very talented D3 players that unfortunately never get the opportunity.

Interested to see if the Padres draft Kyler Murray.

On a side note, A.J. Brown (Ole Miss WR) is in the Padres system.

I'm very curious to see how far Beer drops.

Seems like Mize is the consensus top player, but not ahead of the pack enough that teams aren't going to consider passing on him to draft a guy willing to take below-slot to give them flexibility later in the draft. Mocks are all over the place. Should be an interesting draft.

I have the top pick in dynasty fantasy prospect draft, which of these guys would you take?

RCCTHREE 06-04-2018 11:12 AM

I coached Kelenic as a kid. Hope he goes to a great organization tonight! So excited for him!

Won the D3 natty in 2014 baby!! teammate got drafted by Padres in '16 5th round and he is killing it! Just got promoted to AA. Me on the other hand.. lets just say coach liked me as a clubhouse guy hahaha.

jaydub 06-04-2018 11:18 AM

I'm excited to see where Cal's Tanner Dodson goes, not only draft pick # but also to which team. He could be a two way player although seems more likely to be taken as a pitcher. But that's what they said about Alex Verdugo and the Dodgers went with him as a hitter.

dasiegel 06-04-2018 11:23 AM

is BA doing a regular hot sheet today or are things on hold with the draft?

Haha I heard that. My roommate is in AA with the Mariners now after being taken in the Rule 5 Draft. Hoping he can make it in the next couple of years. I did not, in my wildest dreams, have a shot at getting drafted. Some of the best years of my life though and wish I could go back.

Excited to see where guys who played in my summer league land.

We have a contract in for Slade Cecconi, local prep RHP from Winter Park. If he doesn't sign, he is going to pitch in the league this summer and head to Miami. I've heard Round 3-5 for him.

As for guys who have played in the league, my bet would be Carlos Cortes from South Carolina is our first off the board. Another guy to look out for is Tyler Keysor, juco RHP from East Florida State.

Another one? Thought the Cardinals took this guy in 2010? I'd know cause I lost a ton on him! :flex:

I'd be interested to see if Murray decides to sign or stay at OU.

He has the chance to showcase as a star QB this year, or be a fringe 1st/2nd round pick in baseball's draft this year.

jrg1128 06-04-2018 12:37 PM

It's Travis Swaggerty not Jordan Swaggerty. Also very excited to see where he lands and I hope he's in 2018 Bowman Draft.

I think Mize is ahead of the pack enough, but the Tigers are probably looking for leverage to drive the price down a bit. Tigers are making a big mistake if they pass on Mize, IMO.
