u can notice the difference where the stamped number is placed. the fake one i higher up and the real one is lower and lest of the logo is covered.

That's strange that set would be faked
|
Lots of these have been released without the numbering. Don’t know how Topps let that happen. It’s not like the fleer bankruptcy situation. I’m sure someone bought an unnumbered one and then faked the numbering. Let’s hope only one unnumbered set got out. Boo Topps.

Not necessarily. These are very rare and there have been unnumbered copies sold on eBay many times. One of the rarest 90s refractors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think a lot of these were back doored from topps. I could be wrong but the person selling the unnumbered ones has connections with topps. Either way it sucks. Hope no one on here bought it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Funny thing was I thought at first it was my card and had been stolen. About 6 months ago had flooding in my home, and hired some people do dry it out, and after a month i realized a signed Penny basketball from upperdeck was missing from it's box, never did find it so had to be the clean up people but i had no proof, so for a little while i thought they must have grabbed some of my cards. Was in a panic till I found it, lol.

EDIT: Just realized my wording made it sound like I thought OP's card had a fake serial number. I haven't looked at OP's card, but what I was trying to say is that the card linked in the ebay auction has a fake serial number.

I have a theory that 99% of the fake stamping we see on Topps cards across baseball, basketball and football was done by one person. The stamping is consistent across sets in all three sports, including the backdoored Finest refractors and Bowman Golden Anniversary Refractors (baseball/football). On the one hand, it means the issue is pretty large scale. On the other hand, it means once you become familiar with the fake stamps, you can identify backdoored topps cards regardless of the sport or specific set. In my experience, the fake Topps serial numbers appear exactly like the one in your link -- too rounded on the edges and printed too deeply into the card. |
Well, this just got interesting.....which one is fake....which one is real....what's the truth? :)

Sorry, just realized I made it sound like OP's card was the backdoored one in my post. To clarify, the card in the ebay link has a 100% fake serial number. I haven't looked at OP's card but I assume it's the real deal. |

Hi if u check the probstein123 auction, it ended in June of this year, but if u look at those links, I have been posting about my Penny 1/25, over 3 years ago. And I have that card in my collection since 2000, never sold or traded. |
I remember my brother found a Jalen Rose First Day Issue Refractor that was non numbered out of a pack many years ago. Always thought it was odd.
|
I've got a pack pulled version of tsc chrome first day refractor Karl Malone on my Instagram if anyone wants to see another example of a legitimate stamp. sigchiwab4 is my username
|
would really like to see the back of other P. Hardaway FDI numbered to 25, to see the stamp placements, anyone else have one?

in the early 2000s I pulled a couple of non-autographed cards from Topps that onthe back clearly stated it was suppoused to be signed. Also once pulled Panini Jerry Rice card that was numbered 50/46 |
I think Probstein123 would sell the Mona Lisa without checking into if ya sent it to him.

I think the lesson we learn from all these type stories is to start getting all your high end inserts and parallels graded. In the future (and it's going to get worse) that is going to be paramount in resale value on these type cards.

Agreed its a necessary step, but not the end all. There are plenty of threads here highlighting fake 90's inserts in bgs and psa slabs. So the graders are not catching a lot of these either |

I totally agree, graders overlook some fakes. I am just saying that down the road, when the choice comes for the uneducated buyer to spend money on a card that is graded (even if fake) or raw, the graded card will more then likely hold more value even if the raw card is the real deal. People for the most part put more confidence in that slab and so called expert opinion. And with the alarming rate of fakes being produced now , especially of 90's inserts, and superstar Rookie cards (Judge,Trout, ect) grading is becoming a must for investing. |

Taking that into account and after what happened with the Penny card, I will plan on posting more of my collection with front/back photos, just so there is proof that card i have is legitimate. |

Just so you know, PSA does not authenticate the stamp on the back. They would have graded the card from OP's ebay auction without a second thought. Unfortunately, the only way to stay safe is to familiarize yourself with the stamps themselves. |
