Definitely not made by Tempy Moore

premium1981 09-14-2018 12:25 PM

I actually like them. What are these going to be priced at? I am assuming silly money.

mcgoo2 09-14-2018 02:28 PM

This will make for a cool group break product. I can't imagine anyone will buy a box themselves.

madbull34 09-14-2018 02:29 PM

Holy cow. Game used ball, autographed, painted on 3 sides and 1/1. Gonna be expensive for sure.

If we're painting baseballs, we might as well used non-GU ones, correct?

okumeister 09-14-2018 02:35 PM

Monty's art balls!

Hey guys! :D

Yes, this is the project that has been keeping me busy this year.

After last year working on Topps Transcendent game used baseballs, I found someone who thought the same when those came out, "Where are the autographs to go with the game used baseballs?".

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showpost.php?p=12944988&postcount=37

This is the first time all of these elements have come together on one item. I'm not sure if you can collect something that will get you any closer to an actual play in the game than a game used baseball. I am honored and humbled to be chosen as the featured artist for this company's first product in the hobby.

I aim to make it a memorable one!

I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has about this project.

Thanks for checking it out! :)!

Actually painted on one side, with the player's name and jersey # on the opposite side. The game used baseball is still the star of the show, IMHO.

There are not that many game used baseballs that are painted on in the hobby period. Ms. Seto and I accounted for 32 (that I know of) for last year's Topps Transcendent product. With this project there will be 149 game used baseballs painted, with the Babe Ruth being the only one not game used.

So, 181 game used baseballs is probably about 20% of the amount MLB authenticates on ONE given night during the season (10-15 games worth).

Game used baseballs are fast becoming one of the hottest items in the hobby and there is a hierarchy of pricing for each that I knew nothing about until I started working on this project. Foul balls, singles, doubles, triples, home runs, the prices just keep going up for each level. Staggeringly so.

Autographs can fade over time. What protective measures are on the balls so they won’t fade? Is the paint covered with a laquer after to help maintain its long term integrity?

And to your knowledge, do the game used balls all have a significance to the subject pictured?

ucLAkers 09-14-2018 05:54 PM

I could see myself owning a few of these...like them they look great!

I do spray the finished painted panel with a UV-Resistant clear acrylic coating in order to protect the artwork, I am careful to make sure the spray doesn't touch the rest of the baseball or the ball could possible turn brown over time. I make a framed cut out so only the artwork panel is hit by the spray.

The autograph is left on its own and should last as long as other autographed baseballs do if stored properly. All of the baseballs I am working on for this project will come in a UV-Resistant cube and I believe Piece Of The Game is partnered with Ultra Pro regarding those cubes.

Every game used baseball I paint is tied directly to the player represented. For example, the Ronald Acuna Jr. baseball shown below is his first MLB double of his career. I even used an image of him from that very game as my reference. That doesn't always work out that way with the older baseball players, but it is what I look to do first and foremost with the rookies in this set.

Did they sign it before or after you completed the artwork? Just wondering if the players saw the artwork or not.

Most of the baseballs I have painted to this point have been signed. There were a few players that hadn't signed their baseballs, Paul Goldschmidt was one of them (see picture). Ichiro was another, but I don't have a picture of him with his baseball. I'm just happy they signed them. :)!

stormshadow815 09-14-2018 08:01 PM

Love the idea and would love to own one or two, but I hate that they are only available in multi box format. Terrible way to sell these, should be single blind boxes. Oh well maybe a group break will be available at a semi decent price.

This would be a great idea IF you couldn’t just message the artist and commission them to make you a ball yourself.

I don’t see the point personally as I can buy a Ichiro game ball and hire the artist to do it my exact way.

As the artist, I do take commissions, but I can promise you they wouldn't look exactly like what I am doing for this project. I created the overall design to make each baseball look like it is part of this set. Any commission you ask me to do will not look like what is in this set.

Also, the identity of each game used baseball is a unique "1-of-1", and the average collector would be hard pressed to find some of the game used baseballs I am painting on with this project. There are some really big hits and milestone baseballs in this bunch, not just wild pitches and foul balls.

Supercomputers 09-15-2018 10:54 AM

Congrats Monty I know those breakers eyes light up last year looking for those balls in Topps Transcendent! These are signed and documented and some chances at some incredible hits. The Dual balls look amazing cant wait to see the Babe Ruth. Very impressed with the amount of time and detail that must have gone into this product kudos. If you look at the companies twitter feed. @BaseballfineArt there are more details and pics Only 150 total balls. Good luck everyone lucky enough to get one of these.
