Someday... Storage Wars!

Some day I'm going to see one of these close to me and pull the trigger:

https://www.storagetreasures.com/auctions/detail/692864

Not that I have time to do something like that, but if it sells for a couple hundred bucks, that would be a lot more fun than two boxes of Heritage!

Average age of a collector in the 80's was maybe 20's - 40's? Now we're 30-40 years past that... lots of auctions and storage sales coming up! And they have a dumpster on site for 99.9% of it!

KGWVU 12-10-2018 10:51 PM

That would be a lot of fun butI just would not have the time to go through all of that. I would love to pick it up for my boys and let them go at it for a summer, though.

Ferg1945 12-10-2018 10:57 PM

That micowave popcorn thingee is worth the price of the unit alone.

The cards are all gravy.... BID!!

Ferg1945 12-10-2018 11:00 PM

OH LORD!!!

I totally missed the bottle full of bottle caps.... I would not let this slip through your fingers. Man... not sure I can wait 3 whole days...

at least I think that's what that is.... If I'm wrong... easy pass on the unit.

I bet there is a whole lotta 1992 Donruss in that 1979 Topps labeled box.

anusinha 12-10-2018 11:41 PM

hah, im going to stuff a ratty box labeled 1952 topps with garbage pail kids cards, and place it in a storage box to auction.

Archangel1775 12-10-2018 11:47 PM

It looks like a mix of overproduced late eighties and early nineties stuff with a few newer 2015'ish opened boxes when the owner got back into cards.

That would be cruel! A bookcase in the back full of binders of 1989-1990 garbage marked on the spine with every year from 1952 on.......

If you ever buy one or need advice, lmk. I've bought hundreds and did really well with a 2400sq ft store only being open 10 hours a week. Once most auctions moved online (and my kid got into sports) I stopped, for the most part. Cheaper to find ones not listed on that site. Everyone has time to research and pre sell. With in person, it's what you know. That's how I excelled. Most facilities will let you rent it for 1 month so you can slowly unload if needed. Times when I bought 5 in 1 day I was going to go that route but never needed to.

And you cannot use dumpsters on site. Only been to 1 facility that allowed that. This listing says no. Dump fees add up. About 50-75% of my contents were trash. I was fortunate to be able to dump it for free at work though. Another way is to network with the scavengers. Guys who sell at the swap/yard sale and will take your trash/leftovers and sweep the unit for payment. Have to trust them though or you can lose your deposit if they don't hold their end of the bargain. They will be the ones at the auction paying $1 or sometimes getting units for free that are unsold.

That's only a 26 hour drive for me. I've got the truck. Hot damn I may need to pull the trigger on that bad boy!

Bigbluesooner 12-11-2018 12:42 AM

Where I'm from the owners supposedly can go through the units and take what they want before auction. So I never even consider going to one of these "auctions". A girl I went to school with took over her family's storage company and does it all the time. Full disclosure - she was always a stuck up brat that turned into an even bigger woman's least favorite word.

You gotta yell "yuuuupppp" alot and then remember to pay the half retarded older blonde lady when you win!

The unit content owners get notices that their items are going to auction if they don't pay. The facility managers also could look thru items as well. One facility here locally has a guy that does. I went once to confirm the rumors and it was obvious it was tossed. Footprints, every box flap opened, zipper on every suitcase open etc.

For the online ones yes. For the ones they do in person, you only get to view for a few minutes.

Crazy small world. I'm in Muskogee, OK right now.

Bigbluesooner 12-11-2018 08:53 AM

Wow, didn’t even realize it was local to me. Now I’m tempted just to have something to do this winter. Lol

unclemonkey 12-11-2018 09:31 AM

Calculating the cost of flight, uhaul rental, hotel, gas, and food...

I'd rather open retail.

I will leave for the Oklahoma members.

That said... I haven't fared too bad if you can get these deals for the right price.
