What is a good price for 2018 Topps Update?
 

Hey everyone - I was thinking about buying a box or two of 2018 Topps update from my LCS - he has them at $70 a box is that a good price? Do you think it is worth it? I would love to hear feedback from everyone!

I am pretty sure he has 2018 Series 1 & 2 as well - are either of those better buys?

13% Gold
14.3% Rainbow
0.3% Vintage
1.3% Black
0.3% Independence
0.3% Mother's Day
0.3% Father's Day
0.15% Memorial Day (every other case)
1% Negative
0.3% Clear (every third case)
17.3% SP
8% SSP

Net 56.55%.

The true probability of hitting an Acuna parallel or SP (including the SP and SSP autos) in a hobby case is 57.48%.

The Update hype train is coming..... all aboard!!!!

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but it's amazing to look back at update and see how quickly it's risen over the last 6 weeks.

I remember buying this for $42 a box back in one of the "waves" late last year.


If Soto/Acuna both do well out of the gate, it wouldn't shock me to see this hit $100 a box for hobby.

Good lord, I should have tried to get more when these were dirt cheap for $500 a case. I should have bought 5 cases of this stuff to just sit and reap in the profits. I didn't think it would increase this much so soon though. We are talking about a $30 per box increase in 4 months.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - I think he said he has 4 boxes maybe I will pick them up and rip 2 and hold 2 (until I get bored and end up ripping them too). I have had very little success holding onto unopened was haha.

I want to know who is hoarding all of the cases (hobby and jumbo). I don’t think hobby is available through any of the big 3. There has to be thousands of these still left unopened, yet so few openly available?

It's also surprising how quickly this is drying up. It's not like topps didn't print a TON of this, but blowout has no hobby boxes in stock (and hasn't for quite some time)

Another major seller has no hobby in stock either. The third major seller has them for $79 a box.

I'm thinking there's plenty of people hoarding. I can't compare others, but personally I am sitting on half a case of hobby.


as far as availability, one seller of the "big three" still has hobby in stock. (and they have 8 boxes left)

Oh, I know there are people hoarding. I just want to know who it is. Are distributors still holding on to this stuff? Or is it major retailers waiting to see what happens with the season starting?

No I busted one case, but kept 2 x hobby and 3 x jumbo cases sealed.

2019 being weak is only helping 2018

You have no idea what's in warehouses.....no idea. And I'm not talking about 2018 Update either.

I was able to look around a few weeks ago in one of the warehouse bays of BO and I was floored.

Stuff that hasn't surfaced in years??? They have pallets of it. Nothing is FS either.

You would think if blowout and "the other big seller in NY" had hobby in stock, they would be for sale, but who knows? I Can't answer the question on distributors as I have no connections.



I did buy into the hype: just picked up 2 more hobby boxes at $75 per.

Yes I was talking about 2018 becuase that's what this thread is about. I mentioned 2019 talking about Series 1 being better in hobby boxes versus jumbo. Was curious about 2018 Update if hobby was better or if jumbo was better. I have access to either one.

Is hobby or jumbo better with the 18? I know in 19 the hobby were better, but was curious about 18 Topps Update. I have a chance to get both right now and want to buy some to set on.

Hobby. This has been discussed extensively. Go with hobby if you have a choice!




Edit: I think you meant 2018 update as 2019 is not out yet.

Crazy right?!? I cleaned out eBay with the 10% bucks on anything <$70/box delivered earlier today - there were only 6 boxes like that. The lowest now seems to be $75 or someone at $69.99 + tax (for me that made it ~$75).
