I think it's a bunch of hooey. I mean I like Trout, I collect him but people act like he's the modern day mickey mantle as if Griffey Jr. didn't exist. Griffey was a CF and was a 5 tool player. I think there's always 1 guy every generation that has to be hyped might as well be trout. I mean he's got the looks, he's got good character, obviously very talented but the hype is out of hand.

It's very possible that he will pass Griffey in career WAR after the 2020 season. Griffey played 22 seasons.... 2020 will be Trout's 10th.

I'm an M's fan and I can admit that Trout's better than Griffey, and I'm not sure it's even that close. Griffey had a career WAR of 83 in what, 21 seasons? Trout is already at 64 in 8. By the time Trout is done, if he stays healthy, his numbers will absolutely dwarf Griffey's.

Wow - didn't realize Griffey had an 83 WAR. Yeah Trout will be MUCH better than Griffey Jr.

Honestly, after age 31 Junior's career was pretty forgetful. Lots of nagging injuries, etc. I think he made 3 ASG's in those 10 seasons. Did most of his damage in his 20's.

Trout is as good as Mantle and maybe better.

When I looked it up I thought he was top 20 for sure.

I started scrolling and was like... ok...where is he.... did I miss him? After I found him I knew Trout was close.... didn't think Trout could pass him in his 10th season....but very likely.

Mickey was a NEW YORK YANKEE. He's won several world series championships. There's more aura and mystique around Mickey Mantle.

It's because of the "R" in "WAR". For most of Griffey's career, #9 hitters were hitting 25-30 HR's. If Griffey was clean, then his WAR numbers are negatively affected by the steroid era.
