ALERT: PWCC Continues to Sell Thousands of Cards Trimmed By OCSI In Fresh PSA Slabs

I let it go last month, but it's gotten to the point where the majority of the modern, PSA graded cards that PWCC is selling have been trimmed by OCSI. Buyer beware. Use https://www.psacard.com/cert/ to check the sales history of cards and their corresponding submissions.

Here's a bunch of cards that don't measure up. This is just a tiny fraction of everything, but OCSI is friends with Joe O, Johnathan has to eat, and PWCC needs something to sell, so here we are.

The real question is why people would bother to pay a premium for a PSA 10 version of a modern card, when they are not even scarce.

Probably 40-50% of the copies of any given modern card would grade PSA 10 if anybody bothered to submit them.

tconte 12-04-2019 07:35 PM

Question #2 is why even bid on PWCC auctions. Just pass.

pspa123 12-04-2019 07:40 PM

If I were a certain federal agent, I might be feeling overwhelmed at this point.

Well, half the point of the thread was to show that PSA is still slabbing this garbage, at least for certain individuals.

All submitters are equal.

Some are more equal than others.

I’ve lost faith that the feds are going to do anything.

That certain agent and I had a nice talk about these issues several years ago. He questioned the extent to which most of the hobby cared. I assured him that they did and that the problem was that most didn't know.

At this point, given the massive buying that appears to be going on undeterred despite fairly strong publicity, and the apparent relative lack of interest in even doing basic homework before buying that I have observed on the other Board, I am starting to question my assessment.

Honestly most dont know and that is a problem I've been trying to amplify myself. The common collectors is unaware ,and others are worried about their investments.

Time to shut it all down and issue a statement.

I don't believe most people are still unaware. Every guy here has probably told everyone he knows who collects, for example. Pip posted the other day that in his experience most people he talked to at shows knew.

pspa123 12-04-2019 08:20 PM

I posted about my own process in buying PSA cards now. The thread was copied a number of times on 54. I mentioned among other things that I had a spreadsheet of the outed cards that I checked certs against to see if potential purchases likely were from the same submissions. Not a single person asked me about the spreadsheet. Not. One. Because it would actually mean taking a little time to vet a purchase, which people apparently for the most part aren't willing to do, even now.

Tend to agree here.
More and more I believe we’ve got hundreds or thousands of people very aware of what’s going on but have decided for obvious financial reason to keep their heads firmly buried in the sand. Here’s another indirect analogy that will be dismissed:

If you were owed a large personal debt(let’s say $5000)and were paid in cash, only to find out that later you were paid in very professional looking counterfeit $20’s that you knew would pass for gas, groceries or Target buys... but had no recourse to go back to the person for real $. Would you go to the cops and forfeit it all in the name of doing the right thing?
To me it’s clear that a lot (not all)people who deal in large volumes of graded cards would not. They’d keep a stack of those in their pocket every day and spend away.

Lol and people still hug their slabs and defend PSA. They literally have ONE JOB and they do it with the utmost incompetence.

I’ve got about a measly dozen or so slabs left in my collection, 3 will stay with me in the PC, the other 10 or so will be sold off in spring and then good riddance to the TPG scammers.

Btw, I picked up a card in a PSA holder the other day. It was an 8 and was recently graded. Big name player. All four corners were bleached to obscure wear. Why is PSA still not taking SIMPLE corrective measures to avoid grading altered cards?

It doesn't seem to be a priority, does it?

Would anyone really pick up that Jeter PSA "10" in hand and not just laugh?

As you know, I did too. It's probably more nutty than yours. But if it's a
decent card and I can't get comfortable with it, I don't bother.

pip 12-04-2019 09:23 PM

I would not be opposed to PSA closing its doors and a new company with integrity and skill taking its place. PSA is either the most corrupt grading company on the planet or the most incompetent. Take your pick.

- The idea that whatever you collect isn't what the doctors are working on. Unfortunately trimming isn't limited to high grade vintage or high dollar modern. The reality is that if they can turn a $1 card into a $10 PSA card, then they will.
- The idea that the problem is only with a small percentage of cards. I somewhat agree with this position and think that it is only a small percentage, whether that is 1% or 25%, I don't know. My personal problem with this is that I can't detect which ones it applies to.

Another overlooked problem with all of this is the large number of raw cards that are trimmed and caught by the grader and rejected or butchered so bad that the doctor knows it won't pass grading. There are an incredible amount of raw trimmed cards now in circulation that aren't easy to detect for most of us.
If I were a certain federal agent, I might be feeling overwhelmed at this point.
I believe that's correct.

From what I've learned, the FBI sports card and memorabilia group is fairly small, so overwhelmed is entirely possible.

Would be nice to have a form letter we (collectors) can use, when a new individual/group pops up. Reporting to the FBI alerts each state as well, which could help the progress.
Orgeron (PWCC), California (PSA, OCSI), Michigan (SSS), Washington (COMC), New York (Moser), Virginia (Taing), North Carolina, Florida, Texas......... just takes one state to take an interest.
