If they don't finish the season.... 2019-20 awards?

If they don't finish the 2019-20 NBA season will they still give out awards like MVP, All-NBA 1st team, DPOY, sixth man, most improved, ROY etc.?

Having said that who do you like winning the awards this year?

They'll finish the season but also take postseason in consideration giving LeBron his last one. I've seen Harden snubbed twice and they'll do the same to Giannis.

Rudy Gobert wins DPOY
He shut the whole league down in one night

Regular season is done for all intents and purpose. Silver has already said a decision won’t be made until May at the earliest and the players (and medical staff) said they need 25 days at least before games. Realistically you’re looking at June at the earliest before we see games. That would have the finals ending early August and the draft the end of August.

juandylan 04-18-2020 12:54 PM

MVP - Pascal Siakim
MOP - Fred Van Vleet
ROY - Terrence Davis III
6th Man - Norman Powell
COY - Nick Nurse

daviswr7 04-18-2020 03:52 PM

giannis is mugged if he's not this season's MVP.

They will?

To the OP's question, they have given out awards during the four previous shortened seasons.

I like your thinking lol Nurse will win COY! Book it haha! I think Powell deserves some mention for 6th man but it will probably be Schroder or Harrell. I think Giannis gets both MVP and DPOY!

The last two seasons shortened by lockout I know they have. Don’t see a reason they won’t this year

gomiamigo 04-18-2020 07:06 PM

MVP Embiid
RoY Thybulle
MIP Shake Milton
LIP Horford
DPoY Ben Simmons

That's what I said, and the two before that. Four lockouts.

Bron MVP
Morant ROY

packerfan4200 04-20-2020 04:52 PM

The 33 NBA writers for The Athletic voted on their season awards and revealed them today....

Morant 100% unanimous ROY
Most Improved Bam
6th Man Dennis Schroeder
Giannis wins DPOY with 73% of vote. AD with 20% and splash mountain and mockis smart each sharing the other 2 votes.

MVP was Giannis with 97% of vote. Not particularly close and it really shouldn’t be LeBron truthers....

That would make GA just the 3rd guy to ever win both of those awards in one season. The other 2 were drafted in 1984

I can get with this.

Only thing I'd perhaps tweak is Trae for dpoy.

The rest looks spot on.

33 votes, Giannis got every vote except 1. There's always one voter that keep it from being 100% unanimous.

In football Brady was the only QB to ever win a unanimous MVP until this year, Lamar Jackson joined him being the second player to receive every vote.

Im not sure how many times someone has won a unanimous MVP in basketball.

RogerGodahell 04-20-2020 07:35 PM

Steph Curry is the only player to ever get unanimous 100% of the votes in 2015-16 season. He received all 131 first place votes.

There was that one year in Miami where LeBron got every vote but 1....

That one vote: Carmelo Anthony

tjforce 04-20-2020 08:26 PM

And yes, Giannis should be MVP to this point..

LeBron was closing in, between beating him heads up and Giannis tweaking his knee. Depending on how many games he missed LeBron had a chance to pass him.

But it didn't happen so Giannis is the guy.

Yep. And I'm pretty sure there will be more among the actual voters if the season were to end up today.

I remember that one. I can't stand LeBron but that was one of the strangest things I've ever seen.
