felt like this deserved it's own, "new" thread

after heritage closed one for 96k on may 9th, now...

we have pwcc at 110k with 5 days to go in the auction still.

I think this is absolutely phenomenal for the hobby (of sportscards,
in general), it's got to bring great exposure and attention eclipsing the
100k amount.

Weren’t gems selling for over 100k 15 years ago? Then they came down as the grading boom hit.

The power of a PSA label. I find it crazy that in light of all we have learned about the sheer incompetence in their ability to catch altered cards, people are still willing to pay a massive premium for a minuscule difference in condition for a 10 over a 9. And to pay that price at the venue most implicated in all the funny business? No thanks. For this money I would buy a strong provenience game used piece and a perfectly centered 9 that is only differs from the 10 because the grader had a bad morning in traffic before looking at the card and still have tens of thousands left over.

Crazy, psa/pwcc controversy and poor world economy but cards are selling at record levels lol.

wit the second stimulus package these will even fetch for more!

I remember when 4SharpCorners.com had one available for $18K a few years ago and sent an email to its mailing list about it.

I saw the email in my inbox about 30 minutes after it was sent and wanted to buy it, but someone had already snatched it up by then. I wish I’d been quicker on the gun back then.

The “ones” buying it or the “ones” believing these are sold? Maybe tomorrow, “someone” will bid 200k and we will break new records again. We can have a daily record breaking thread lol

As much as the bidding on this copy may not be legitimate, the PSA 10 Jordan should be a six figure card. Imagine cutting the LeBron TC PSA 10 pop from 1979 to 312. And then eliminating every other LeBron RC that exists. How much would that card sell for?

And that's why it doesnt matter if its trimmed or not to many. Buying the grade rather than the card.

The two PWCC PSA 10s that are up on eBay right now, look at the large pictures, the're not even close to PSA 10 condition. lol. Corners are white and one is off-center T-B.. I've seen nicer 9's.. If I spend that type of money I want a card that deserves the grade, crazy how people will spend money just on the label grade alone. Same goes for the 1980 Bird/Magic RC.

China will create near-perfect PSA lighthouse slabs in the near future that will slowly start flooding the market.


Mark it down. There's no way they don't see this dime hysteria and don't want a piece of it.

Fake “sales” are one of the go-to moves for the unscrupulous in our hobby. Happens so much, and so easily, in a totally unregulated market. The Jordan PSA 10 “selling” for 100k smells fishy as all hell to me, documentary or no documentary. I would bet hard these are fake sales, trying to take advantage of some genuine momentum.

Great point above, too, about collectors vs investors. As a collector I have never understood paying an astronomical price increase for an infinitesimal increase (if any) in card quality (mainly in the 9 to 10 case). That dynamic seems fundamentally unsound and I’ve never bought into it. Comes down to the collecting of and kow-towing to stickers bestowed on a card by employees of questionable competence at inept companies.

I have 5 Jordans at PWCC right now up for auction. We will see how real the sales are when they wire me the money.

Doctor Claw... I agree 100%! And props to you for calling it out. So many people have bashed me lately for calling the industry corrupt. I hate to admit, but I can't deny the truth. There is no way this is a 100-150k card. I don't think anyone is buying this card at this price. The sale is fake and just trying to sucker someone in to buying another one that will trail behind it...
