Upper Deck Series 1 20-21
Just curious to see if you guys/gals have any thoughts on how next year's UDS1 will be structured. Is a significant delayed release date inevitable? With the season not starting until well after the early November release date, I'm wondering if it will compare to the 12-13 season where they put a double class in 13-14. With lafreniere and some other highly coveted rookies to come out, I'm curious to hear any thoughts on it. Never purchased a case before and was planning on it, but wouldn't want to until I knew at least Lafreniere would be in it. Thanks!

I think it might be delayed and they'll use some rookies from the playoffs to help bump up Series 1. Maybe we'll see Lafreniere in S2 depending on how long S1 gets dealyed.
It's going to be an interesting year of hockey cards if things continue or get worse.. |
We will see some kind of Lafreniere in Series 1 especially if he lands with a major team (NYR). Be it a YG, canvas YG or draft day card SP, he will be in it somehow.
We will know the #1 team on Monday, so they can fire up the graphics. Edit; actually maybe they will pull the old Shaq and insert some #1 pick redemptions and we will have #1A and #1B. |
If the Habs pick Lafreniere, I might be in for a case of UD1.

Don't do it- better to pick up his YG on the open market. Typical odds are 1.5 YGs per 12 box case- so you might get 2 if you are lucky. And MAYBE an Exclusive /100 if the Hockey Gods are smiling in your direction. Price of a case pre-order in my neighbourhood is $1179 CDN + tax. You can get a lot of Alexis for that amount of cheddar. |

Agreed. When the cost of the main YG is the cost of a box and a half, why take the risk? Even buying two boxes and crossing your fingers seems silly, unless you enjoy the base set. Factor in you don't know how many exclusives and HG are on Epack (at higher cost) as opposed to physical pulls and just get yourself a nice PSA 10 YG exclusive for the cost of that case. |

Wth the Habs going into playoffs, I won't go crazy with the Alexis-mania. A few blasters of UD1 during the black friday sale like I do usually, and that will be enough for me :) |
UD could release series 1 with retro young guns and previous season young guns as they did in 2004-05. A Series 3 or UD Update product may be in order this year.

Hearing that hobby for this was pushed back from 11/5 to 11/19. Anyone else hear this too. Just saw it on Twitter so not 100% confident. Guessing that will push back retail too?
Also hearing that the only YG from the recent draft will be Lafreniere which is disappointing if true. Kind of glad I never locked in a pre-order for a case. Probably just grab a couple of hobby boxes. |

I did lock in a few preorder cases and might be regretting it if that is the only YG from the current year. Series 2 could be loaded however... |
Dave & Adams has both Hobby & Retail SKUs set to Nov 18th this morning. Wonder if retail will be pushed back?

I'm seeing two types of boxes- I guess retail $59 & $79(hobby)?. Is the only difference is that Hobby has Canvas?

And as an occasional hockey phenom chaser, along with a Rangers fan, I'm pretty psyched for this release[emoji3060] Thx[emoji106] Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |

Thx[emoji106] Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk[/QUOTE] If all you want are Young Guns then Retail makes the most sense. TBH though, wait for a few weeks after the release and pick up singles on the secondary market. The only YG in S1 likely worth a pinch is Alexis- no one knows who else is on the list yet. Better just to buy the card. Historically, unless you were to open 8+ boxes from the top or bottom of a sealed case you aren't guaranteed any particular player's YG. Seeding ratio is 6/box = 72/case. With 49 Ygs that's an average of 1.5 of each card per case. |

If Alexis comes out the gate around the price of 2 hobby boxes, yeah I'll just grab him. But if he's = 4 hobby boxes, I might just roll the dice on a box, too rich for my blood lol! If he doesent have a hot start he'll be like Jack Hughes.
If he does he'll be like elias pettersson. Either way it will drop hard. New York is a terrible hobby market for its size. |

I picked up his YG at some point last season, even with his struggles. I just think he's too talented to be ruled a bust just yet. Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |

Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk[/QUOTE] He's not a bust yet. But he's YG is already 1/3 the price of peak. Elias is only $60 usd averaging ppg in season and playoffs. Lafreniere needs 35 goals 75 points to not tank hard. It won't be easy. Post e-pack it is almost impossible for a YG to stay at $100 + usd besides mcdavid/matthews. Only if lafreniere went to Montreal. |
