I remember a spin off of the Pit.com trying to do something very similar. It was interesting and I actually accumulated enough "shares" to get a ty cobb beauty. Not sure whatever happened from there.... It's a very interesting concept....

Time to stamp 1st Edition on every product
|
Have 5 hobby cases preordered! Ready to go!!
|
Looking forward to the next Montgomery club factory set.

So, what is the appeal to the Factory Sets? I purchased one in 2010 but never have recently.
|
Appeal to the factory sets is you get every card from 1 to 700. It's why a lot of members on here tell you to not buy base rookies for $25 like the Luis Robert base is going for. It's in every factory set usually in better condition. A lot of these also come with parallels. The hobby factory sets come with a 5 card foilboard pack - these are numbered to 162, some come with a rookie variation - these are also highly collectible. A few come as well with a relic - those aren't the best.
|
The Rally Road factory sets are such a cheap gimmick - buy shares in a factory set.

This is from the site:
In 1952, Topps released its first annual set of baseball cards and in the 68 years since has solidified itself as an essential part of American sports history. This year, Topps is releasing a limited “1st Edition” set of its flagship baseball line, only available on Rally. #2020TOPPS is ten “1st Edition” 2020 Topps Baseball Complete Sets, with each set encased in a commemorative wooden box containing the 700-card base set (Series 1 + Series 2) along with 5 rookie variation cards. Each limited-edition card bears a “1st Edition” silver foil stamp and is 1 of only 12 copies in existence. They are trying to get 100 grand, which is ridiculous. |

They are literally printing money...

I like how it's "1st Edition", but comes out AFTER everything else (like boxes, packs, etc). |
Right on!
i started this thread last year, and it was very helpful |
Aren't the factory set base for RCs a bit different from the retail/hobby version?

You mean the actual card in the set? No But some sets come with rookie variations. Maybe that's what you're thinking of, but those are in addition to the normal set card. |
I'm looking forward to buying a Factory Set. I wish I could have one in hand right now.
|
Seems ridiculous. Why would I want to buy a share in a card or a set. Would not you just want to buy the actual card. It’s not like you get to keep 10% of it in youR closet. There is no nostalgia in a share.

Got 36 Hobby and 10 Retail sets ordered.

Anyone know how many factory sets they usually produce? I'm mainly wondering just to know how many of the variant rookie cards they make.
Does the retail set usually sell for $79.95? |

Hobby sets were in the high 40s just a couple months ago. People finally realized what a Luis Robert foilboard might go for and cleared the shelves.
