Gavin Lux: Buy, sell, hold?
Headline says it all. What are you doing with your Gavin Lux cards? Buying, selling or holding?
|
Yes!!!
|
I would sell. Who have been the real stand-out 2Bs over the last decade or so? Chase Utley, Brian Dozier, Ian Kinsler, and Jose Altuve. None of those guys gets too much hobby love (Altuve COULD have been the exception, but we all know why he’s not). If Lux is your PC guy, go for it, get all his stuff, but if you’re talking pure financials... now is great time to sell.

He didnt perform too well in the Majors in 2020 and I believe was left off the playoff roster with LA. Might want him to have a hot month early in 2021 before unloading I dont think his stuff is going for big bucks right now |
Sell cheap so I can buy. His stuff is already low so maybe you can sell for 40 cents on the dollar.
Serious though. He was late to spring training for personal issues and was clearly not mentally prepared. You think it's tough for veterans to be thrown off by a disruptive covid sart? Try a 22 year old top prospect that the world expects to automatically rake. Baseball is hard. |
His stuff is so cheap right now it’s probably worth it to hold. Have a bunch of S1/UK base and a UK /50 that seems tough to move on from for what they’re going for.
A full season could definitely help his status in my opinion. Kike possibly leaving will at least open up some more ABs for him. |
I bought a ton at the peak during summer training. I also have been buying during his low this off season. My hope is he has a good year this year and rakes. He still has all star potential. Fangraphs is still high on him, so I am keeping the faith for now.

Best possible outcome: A couple All-Star games and hopes to be a Top 5 player on his own team, eventually.
|
Well if youre going to sell don't do it now lol. Wait until march at least
|
138 at bats in the show... thats barely over a month of baseball. Buy or hold.. anyone suggesting or contemplating selling now needs to be 302d.
|
Something happen to him mentally after the Rona & he has not recovered....
If your buying...im selling now If your selling...im not buying Thats what I know about Lux and I have been prospecting him since 2016. His last payout was Topps Chrome redemptions...then bust. |
At current prices id say hold.
|
There are some people still willing to take a risk
I'm not sure what happened in 2020. It wasn't a good thing that he wasn't starting and when he did, he seemed to struggle at the plate. Personally, I was a buyer until he was left off the playoff roster. Now, its a matter of waiting to see what 2021 brings. At 2B, he could very well be a perennial NL All-Star on a team highly favored to win the WS for the next 5 years OR he could be traded away and not do very much. If you're in cheap, sell If you bought in high, hold |

I meant to say wait until March, then sell. Now is the buying season for baseball, not the selling. Wait until he gets into camp and the Dodgers beat reporters start talking him up, then sell. Because what’s your best-case scenario, he’s the next Whit Merrifield? |

Perennial All-Star on a World Series winning team...... |

My main point is that modern 2Bs don’t seem to get a lot of hobby love these days. Since the OP seems more concerned about future value than having a solid PC guy to collect, I think he should sell in the short term. |
I wouldn’t sell right now. Never sell baseball cards in the off season.

Lux
Dodger fan here. He is part of my PC New RCs-Lux, May, and Gonsolin

In reference to the above posts about not selling baseball cards in the off season. I always thought it was best to sell in the off season because that’s when everyone is stocking up buying (please correct me if I’m wrong as I might if gitvthey backwards) I can see that selling in season when a player like lux is hot makes the most sense, but what about selling retired players such as HOF autographs? (Is the buying off season related to only current/active players or retired players also?) Thanks

It’s already easy to forget that there was an excellent 2B in the first half of the ‘10s on a likely HoF track even. His first name was Robinson but his last name might as well be Crusoe at this point.
Meanwhile, D.J. Lemahieu, who is one helluva an excellent baseball player in a premiere baseball card town of late, well he called and said “sell.” |
Definitely a buy or hold.

You ain't lying! |
I think I'm going to hold on to this a little longer ... I sent it in for grading ...
