Lebron vs KD over next 4 years
Interesting scenario - could KD's cards be worth more than Lebron's longer term if:
** KD and the Nets win 2 or 3 NBA titles over the next 4 years ** KD is MVP at least 2 more times ** Lebron does not win any more NBA titles or MVPs |
Nope.
More because none of this will happen |
Nope.
More because none of this will happen
Agreed. And even if that did happen Lebron would still be worth more. People don't like KD. I happen to like him. I get why people don't though. |

Short of Lebron having some sort of Bill Cosby type secret past, KD won’t make up the ground on his own. Dude can hardly even stay on the floor.

He’s isn’t going to break the scoring record though There is another thread about him playing like 65 games a year at his age and dropping 25 (no chance) It was a fun read |

Arguing that KD had no shot at Kareem's scoring record was one of them. A whole lot of people told me I was wrong. But hey, at age 32 he's only 15,000 points behind Kareem. All he needs to do is but up the scoring and games played that he did in his first 8 years in the league over the next 8 year span of his career and he's right there! |
Long-term, KD's cards won't even be worth more than Curry's cards, and Curry's cards won't even be worth more than LeBron's.
If A < B and B < C, then A < C. |
KD has a perception problem in that he will never be perceived as having led a team to a title, given that his rings will all be as part of "superteams" on which he was not the clear team leader/best player.
|
A lot of people might not like Lebron because of his politics and/or personality, but take that dislike and 10x when it comes to KD. Even if they were level in accomplishments I'm willing to bet Lebron would be collected at a 2-3x greater rate than KD. And like Eastbayak says, I doubt KD is ever more collected than Steph. Would take a miracle at this point.

There is another thread about him playing like 65 games a year at his age and dropping 25 (no chance) It was a fun read
My thread where I said that would get him to 4th past Kobe and MJ, not 1st. Maybe read it again? I'm a KD fan I'm not insane. But you might be if you don't think KD can play 60-65 games a year and avg 25 for the next ~5 years from age 32, this year is his 2nd most efficient scoring season of alltime recovering from an achillies tear. 28.3 ppg. Dame just said he's probably the best player, maybe you think he doesn't know anything either. Even if KD slows down he can play a lot longer than 5 years, his game is not based on explosiveness. Obviously if he suffers more injuries that cost him a full season, he won't. Future seasons won't have compressed schedules like this one with 5 games in 7 days, players will get their normal rest again which will reduce injuries and load mgmt. If KD won 3 straight titles in NYC and 2-3 MVPs and Finals MVPs, I think he'd maybe catch Queen James, but as others said that won't happen so doesn't matter. |

Yes, I think that is a big factor as well. |

I think he was clearly the best player. He will only be seen as a mercenary and they werent “his” teams. Hes just not on the same level as Lebron in regards to hobby love. He could get there but its just not very likely. |
KD is to Lebron
as Peyton is to Brady. No. |
KD is to Lebron
KD is to Lebron
as Peyton is to Brady. No.
I had this same thought once, but then realized that Peyton is the greatest regular season QB of all time. KD is not really that guy. But I understand the overall sentiment. Peyton is also corny and likeable. KD, not so much. |
Terrible analogy.
Never going to be a 1:1 analogy. In terms of real world iconic status and actual hobby wood, it is absolutely a fitting analogy. KD is so far removed from Lebron...even though he is a remarkable talent. |

Indeed. Peyton was also; for a good majority of his prime, regarded as THE quintessential offensive talent, even if he didn't make it deep into the playoffs on a regular basis. Postseason wise they are different beasts, but Manning still has his rings, that in the end that's all that matters to the Hall. But Manning was definitely Brady's 1b just as KD is to Lebron. Nothing wrong with that. |
I doubt KD is ever more collected than Steph. Would take a miracle at this point.
You keep thinking in your addled mind that KD is 10x more hated than Lebron, with zero evidence every time. It's laughable. You hate him, fine, we get it, stop pretending to speak for every other NBA fan. I think Lebron is more widely disliked by the average fan, esp after his recent twitter idiocy. But he's this generations best player and his prices reflect that. Steph record sale: $611k in BGS 9.5. KD record sale: $799.5k. In BGS 9. 30% more for a lower grade. #Facts. |

Except Durant clearly outplayed Lebron, head-to-head in 2 straight Finals, winning the chip and Finals MVP both times. Manning never outplayed Brady in a SB, obviously. Lebron still has more rings and Durant likely may never catch him nor maybe even close the gap, this year's playoffs will be interesting. |

Can't find a 1:1 comparison, but in my mind this is the (or one of) closest. Even if KD wins more rings, I can't ever see him reaching or eclipsing Lebron's hobby levels. Lebron is a far reaching global icon that came into the league as the chosen one, and will have set virtually every counting stat record in NBA history in multiple categories by the time he retires. That is not taking away from KD, as he is a generational talent that will have produced a resume greater than most stars could even dream of. |

The one I was referencing was a thread from several years ago... probably during KDs 2nd or start of 3rd year with the Warriors, that some people were sure he was going to pass Kareem. |
In answering the OPs question with his assumptions in mind, I honestly don't know. If not, he approaches 90% of LeBron values by meeting those assumptions as a worst case screnario.
I happen to think first two bullet points are plausible. Last bullet point I don't think is plausible as LeBron will develop another super team if he doesn't get his ring. |
