New Anthony Davis NT RPA 195/199 patch swap discovery (8/15/2021)

I took a bunch of pictures of RPA's at the National and I'm just getting around to looking through them. As noted on my tracker, card 195/199 was pulled and posted on YouTube on 8/13/2013 at the 6:10 mark. Here's a scan of the card from when it was for sale (pulled from Worthpoint before the site purged all card data). Here's a picture I took at the National this year. Same serial number and auto is the exact same. This one is pretty cut and dry: [URL="https://www.beckett.com/grading/card-lookup?item_type=BGS&item_id=0009408455&g-recaptcha-response=03AGdBq27BGcIanwEjpYI2Wg456hATqD8HyM7yzJCdq7-FLyfnJcYWXVvabhHK_ExAsTJUZZoAJVxmVB7NuHVolicdquuZ7ZlhvN-m7VH6Y4812imG4ghzOcMFCJVoNvlKYeGcyzOWaYkko4SU2UmOgedU6kvm3OWel7_bfs2oVPlaV75LT9YPm-WiRAFMh9M9AVDNTwkUPyXCzTfvCyikHNAOUhl4Xt3sJ7fp1e6PNe42OBml0hlTsCeLHYfJTyEuwjyPFRvTzC3XKpRA5h2qrStQ58Ucq-xFC7dlMtBIcQ8gCw0J_qriowW5oalixErwEFR3JgHwt8OlqsSrArI6HaLxVR0oD4Y1HirT4hSjpzhZputnakqhaGpjYS1huvyC3Yz8tSlF7XHKQ6fTVh_l2AdcHVnoy3w_Nv5RTa2C8dhB4H2Hzp8EdviZsdSN3q9AiFCQsCXXm9ElDBv4VJwL-SYZvUX7xE3Y0wUezZelaMmGzgM3Sk_Xifb6guGMHWpi3JJIds_DipM31O9_WkpWmkiIEqO_qyWAvQ&hiddenRecaptcha=&submit=Submit&submit=Submit"]Slabbed by BGS in 2016 They authenticate the card and not the patch. And these aren't obvious without keeping a database. This one has gone undetected for 5 years. The last one I uncovered had gone even longer. That brings our new total to 7 known copies. Great work. I wonder if these where all done by the same person? Your thoughts.

What a shame. Any alteration to a card makes it worthless to me. I will never knowingly add an altered card to my collection or keep an altered card in my collection. The manipulation of the card completely ruins it. Thanks for your great detective work as always!

Why do people do this? Are they trying to reconstruct the jersey lol. How valuable can an inch swatch of a jesey be without the card?

They all look like the same jersey was cut up, based on the patch overlaid on the same color in every replacement. May be a serial filler.

Really unfortunate obviously. Thanks for looking out for the hobby!

Kyle this is truly insane that you do this detective work and data collecting. I say this from a place of laziness.
|
It would be great if there was a way to trace all of these back to first siting, and then see if there was a point where they were all in same persons possession.
Truly great work....worthy of BODA nomination. |

My guess is some of them are some of the better pieces from Austin Rivers or Lance Thomas cards.
Really unfortunate obviously. You do a great job with inserts. Excellent work, tracking these fake patches.
The very next BGS number is also an Anthony Davis NT RPA. Might need to research the history on that one, as well. |

Great work Kyle!

I laughed out loud in my office--fantastic! It's a shame people do this, gotta be careful. I bought an Alexander Ovechkin The Cup numbered 9/99 that had a bad patch--I was fortunate enough to sell it to an Ovechkin Supercollector who knew it was fake, and still wanted the card, as it is his best RC... |
