***The Official New York Yankees Thread***
Let's make this the official Yankees thread for '22 and beyond. Extatic to say adios to Sanchez and heartbroken to see Ursula leave. What's the deal for first base and catcher?
|
Seems like Rizzo is staying. And Voit is still currently a Yankee, right? As far as catcher, you guys have a few decent options in the minors.

As far as I know Rizzo still hasn't been signed. Voit is not the answer IMO. And yeah I guess hot potato at catcher. |
Right now I see us as 3rd best behind Rays and Jays. Frankly we might also be behind the Sox. If Severino isn't back and pitching at a high level, I have no idea how we're expecting to win.

Anyone behind the plate is an upgrade over Sanchez and his .200 BA |
I really hope they go Rizzo. I don't believe Freeman is actually a realistic target with the $ hes gonna command, and now Olson is also gone.
Making sure 1B is a Lefty would be big, especially now that we added two starters in Donaldson (another RH bat) and Kiner-Falefa(also a RH bat I believe). As much as I enjoyed when Voit was going great with the homers, I don't trust him to stay healthy and another RH bat is not what the Yanks need |
If Brett Gardner is a Yankee this year I might vomit

I think it's going to be long year.... I am not impressed so far....

If the Yanks still end up getting Correa/Story, this trade will look 100 times better. Let's not forget that Donaldson had a .900 OPS in 2019 and played 155 games. He's been banged up since but still produces when he's on the field and all the stories about him say he's a gamer and works hard, so I'm okay with it.
To have him as the 'everyday' 3B, Story/Correa at SS, and IKF as the backup infielder would be amazing regardless of whether or not they get Freeman/Rizzo. With that said, if they leave it as is and settle for Rizzo, this offseason is a failure. New dream (but realistic) scenario since Olson is off the table is: Trade for Manaea and Murphy from A's for Voit and prospects (probably going to take a lot of low to mid-tier guys). Sign Correa/Story. Sign Freeman/Rizzo. C Murphy 1B Freeman/Rizzo 2B DJ 3B Donaldson SS Correa/Story LF Stanton/Gallo CF Hicks RF Judge INF IKF INF Gleyber OF Locastro C Higgy SP Cole SP Sevy SP Manaea SP Montgomery SP Taillon SP Gil/King/Nestor/German I have a feeling today's the day that big names are going to drop. First ST game is on Friday and position players want their ABs. They want to sign then have a couple days to report to camp and settle in. Just my opinion |
I'd like to see Gleyber in the lineup. A new hitting coach can do wonders for someone his age who hit 38 homers just 3 seasons ago.
|
Yankees aren't getting Freeman
|
Highly unlikely that they traded Sanchez and Urshela for Donaldson/Falafel, if they planned on signing Correa/Story.
They'll give Freeman the extra year, or an option, and things will look so much better than current state. |
Friday can't get here soon enough. Can't wait to start watching some games again, even if they don't matter.

This is why I love Gardy haha! |
Yankees aren't getting Freeman
I say there's a 10% chance. It's coming to a head with the Braves officially out and more teams jumping in on the bidding. Next, we'll hear about a 'mystery' team and then we'll know his decision soon after that. Signing Correa/Story and using IKF as an infield utility makes too much sense. Especially when they are looking to trade Voit and they are getting offers on Gleyber. |
Matt Olson signed an extension at an aav of 21M a year. You're going to tell me Volpe is going to be that good that we couldn't get a lefty power hitting 1B at age 28 and locked in for 8 years? WTF is Cashman doing?

They're banking on a kid that hasn't played above single A ball to become the next Jeter. There's word that Correa will just sign back with the Houston Asterisks on a 1 year deal for $40MM+ b/c Boras won't get his full commission if he signs a long-term deal this off-season. And it looks like they'll lose out on Freeman to LAD. Cashman has the best job security in the world |

Agreed, I don't think the Yanks sign any "A" free agents. No Freeman, no Correa and no Story. |
I think Andujar plays more this year than anyone expects right now

I think Cashman is more than capable of running the team just not when restraints are put on him. Does that make him a bad GM? Maybe. But there's no doubt that he knows how to put together a winning team, he just struggles with putting the team over the top. |
The Yankees of old would have at least pumped up their prospects so they could trade them for stars. We're passing on perennial all stars to protect prospects? Who are we?

Wannabe Rays |
Olson signed for less than the Texeria deal, that's insane that we didn't go after him.
