SGC Grades FAKE Derek Jeter Signature Rookies Auto— Currently for sale on eBay
 

Here's yet another example of why any autographed card in an SGC holder should be questioned.
This 1994 Signature Rookies Derek Jeter autograph [URL="ebay.com/itm/364022596060"]currently being sold on eBay[/URL] by seller baseballcardsandcollectibles is a forgery. Here is a photo:

And here, also in an SGC holder, is an authentic example of a 1994 Signature Rookies Derek Jeter autograph:

Again, there is no substitute for doing your own research, even when cards are in TPG holders.

Not intended to inflame anyone, how do we know this for sure? I'm no auto expert but I do know humans signatures do vary even in the same product, even more so year to year. And how do we know its not the other one that is actually fake? Are there any distinguishing details on the card to signify its an auto version? I mean, does SGC even guarantee the authenticity of the autographs or do they just grade the signature itself without authentication? Its website does not mention any authentication, as far as I can tell.

From the fakes to the modern crap sigs that go for an authenticated auto...

For those that are new to these types of threads, most experts do not reveal their exact tells, because more of these are being produced/forged, so that the scammers cannot correct what they're doing wrong.

I remember back in the 90s-00s, Florida driver's licenses used to have the height and weight measurements on them, but the HEIGHT label was actually spelled 'HFIGHT' on real licenses. If you counterfeited one, you probably would type in HEIGHT correctly, so police departments would immediately know most fake IDs by this simple tell.

Same principle. If you have questions about whether ones you own or are considering purchasing are real, most of the BODA members are willing to check them out for you for free.

The fake one shown has the signature in one pen and the numbering in another. Real one is all is same pen...

Dan, I forwarded that auction to Brent over at SGC two days ago.

They didn't cert the "autograph," but they did grade the forgery.

See below where SGC graded a forged/counterfeit Sandy Koufax.

I sent that to Brent also.

I've exposing that-style Jeter forgery for years.

Obvious forgery.

Google "Derek Jeter Forged GAI."

Ebay seller Dollar_Bill at one time sold dozens of these Jeter forgeries; in addition, those GAI slabbed forgeries included Brett Favre, Walter Payton and others.

I remember in 2020 when I exposed CAS for certing a few Derek Jeter obvious forgeries. And before I posted anything, I gave them the courtesy of an email and they never responded.

They finally did respond when I posted my findings on Net54.

Comc_consignment recently (see below) sold the below forged/counterfeit Kobe Bryant card. When I informed them they they were selling a forged/counterfeit card they replied (paraphrasing) "That there is no time limit as to when a customer can return a fraudulent item." They've sold other forged/counterfeit cards in the past.

When it comes to TPGs and autograph authentication, 10% is actual skill/knowledge and the other 90% is hand-waving, imaginary bullsh!t. There are absolutely no minimum competency requirements for authenticators. When thousands, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars are riding on individual decisions that are made, you might think that there has to be some core, baseline training behind the result. And you'd be wrong.

Thinking beyond cards and to entertainment memorabilia and historical items your statement is especially troubling.

Anyone buying a entertainment memorabilia or auto item that doesn’t come from a reputable company with IN PERSON authentication is an imbecile. Yes there are real autos out there…you can see the idiots on video with paparazzi begging like man children for autos from actors….but I’d guess the fakes outnumber the authentic items 10 to 1.

Historical items? Maybe there’s super experts, but where there’s so much financial incentive, there’s very creative people.

Those dirtbags over at Coach's Corner (Malack and Trythall) have been selling forged historical signatures for over two decades and they are still in business.

The people who buy that garbage are either naïve or delusional or both; just like the people who purchase $50.00 "Mantle" autographs on Ebay.

About ten years ago I stopped feeling sorry for people who buy that crap, and it's one of the reasons why I stopped doing YouTube videos on forgeries and specifically Coach's Corner (I call them Roach's Korner).

Anyone remember the Derek Jeter/Scott Rolen forged Topps Co-Signers cards.

I remember contacting Topps about them; they replied "Did you pull it out of pack? If not, there's nothing we can do about it."

I know nothing about this issue (had never seen this card before), but given what I can discern from this thread, it seems like forgeries are pretty common. Probably best to stay away unless you really know what you're looking at.

Not unlike the buybacks autographs that some card companies have issued that are nothing more than the original card with a cheap foil stamp.

Even the 1997 Upper Deck Football Legends (which is a great set) has had all sorts of issues -- from reports of unsigned cards going out the back door to players not returning cards. Eventually, some of these cards have apparently been "signed."

That is why I have always written that Ebay is the most dangerous platform to buy autographs if you have no knowledge of autographs.

The sellers of forgeries are well aware that over 80% (probably higher) of the people who buy autographs have no knowledge of them.

People assume that Ebay filters out the forgeries; never could be further from the truth.

Or that because it comes with a "COA" that it must be authentic.

There are two sellers on Ebay (Kadstrictlymoose and Usaf-2657) have been selling the same Florida forgeries for years. Ebay doesn't care.

And the two aforementioned sellers always have a "Sale."

It's amazing that no one asks "Where are you getting all of your Mantle, DiMaggio, etc., autographs from?" They don't ask because they are delusional.
