What’s going on with TAG?

I got into the hobby just as Jeremy Lee started his TAG informercials. There seemed to be tons of hype from those videos and shortly thereafter. Since then I haven’t seen ANY marketing from TAG. No engagement on Instagram posts or YouTube videos related to TAG. Jeremy seems to be talking less about them as well. I was interested in the company but lack of marketing seems sus.

Anyone notice the same?

The marketing money ran out.

They are grading about 500 cards a week and not increasing that number. Jeremy Lee is silent and so is everyone at the company. They are not hiring at all, and it is no secret what TAG is. They want to unload this technology to PSA or someone else and have no intention of scaling up to grade cards. If you read information about TAG, all you see is patent this and patent that. Why are they mentioning all their patents? Does PSA mention its patents on its website? Here is the information from TAG's linkedin. Does this sound like a company that wants to grade cards or sell its technology?

Our multi-patented system, TAG (Technical Authentication & Grading), is an accurate, consistent, and reproducible card grading technology.

TAG has been awarded 4 patents covering 134 claims and counting. (#9767163, #10146841, #10445330, #10459931)

TAG is the industry’s never-before available solution to the numerous inconsistencies that result from subjective grading practices existing in the market today.

It is our mission to use innovation, to apply technologies, and to create for each collector: transparency, accuracy, and consistency for every card grade.

Until you have many, many reasons to believe otherwise, walk through life with the understanding that there are only four actual grading companies.

What are the 4? PSA, BGS, CSG, ?

You really need to substantiate what you say.

They use automated grading, why wouldn't they mention that? A strange thing to nitpick.

Maybe PSA doesn't mention patents, because they use human graders?

This and anyone sending their slabs to other companies, expecting increased value, are just not seeing clearly. If you like the slab, good for you. They have a nice look, but long term this company will not be around, as least significantly grading cards down the line.

Liking the slab is one of the least important reasons for using a company that offers automated grading.

It really does seem like they are just hoping to be acquired, but if that was the case I’m not sure why they would have done those company tours showing off all their equipment?

It’s just been a shame as I love their slab and do believe there is a place for true AI grading. Just look at how popular chatGPT has been in the mainstream media.

Disappointing how they launched and while I was eager to submit to them before on a trial basis, I’m not sure anymore.

varjakpaul 01-18-2023 06:38 PM

They're telling people who ask on their website to subscribe to their mailing list for an announcement this week about pricing and grading expansion. Sounds like the early push was soft-launch/market research and something new may (???) be coming

I wish people would stop listening to people like Jeremy Lee.

Why? Should they listen to all the uninformed people on baseball forums instead?

really no difference.

Making your own podcast doesn’t make you an expert on things.

Also, much like ISA grading and Jason Koonce, looks like majority of Jeremy Lee’s stuff isn’t in the TAG holders he’s pushing. Says a lot.

varjakpaul 01-18-2023 09:15 PM

Walking that incredibly fine line of trying to look objective when you literally have a stake in the success of a company. Can't have it both ways.

That's funny.

Jeremy Lee works for TAG. I'm guessing he knows more about the company than you.

Seems like this post was about tag and guy making this thread used the fact that dude worked there and shilled for the company as a reason to grade with them.

It’s literally the first post in this thread if you missed it.

Like I said - I wish people would stop listening to people like Jeremy Lee.

His job at TAG is business development and he is transparent about working for them. Is he not allowed to talk and promote the company?

What specifically has Jeremy Lee said about TAG that you have a problem with?

That he is Bruce Lee's second cousin removed and Jeremy Renner's third nephew twice removed. These are troubling.:flex::D:cool:

I get it. You’re likely one of tags only customers so you must defend them.

I pay no attention to Jeremy Lee nor do I care about another grading company that popped up in the last two years and likely won’t be around in another 2.

What I do care about is those who other people think are “experts” using their influence to lead less experienced people in to bad decisions. Happens a lot in this hobby with influencers once they get a platform.

I urge you to read the first post in this thread…again. OP saw dude talking about tag, saw other influencer types hyping tag…and now nada. Wonder why?

This isn’t normal nor should it be accepted.

What bad decisions did Jeremy Lee lead people to make when discussing TAG? Jeremy Lee was interviewed and talked about TAG less than a month ago (link above).

Grading with tag is a bad decision.

Maybe they should hire you to be their marketing manager. You shouldn’t be doing all this defending for free.
