Will MVP Award Matter.........?
in terms of pricing of Embiid's cards? Slight bump? Or will only a championship make any meaningful difference?
Thoughts? |
No value increase based on the MVP award and only a slight bump if any for a championship.
|
Not really any bump in card values for winning MVP, maybe slightly but already priced in after the Boston game.. altho i think MVP is important for player's legacy in the long term since there's a lot of good players who never win one
|
Definite bump if you win MVP and title the same year, and odds would be very high Embiid would also be Finals MVP in that case as well.

youre my hero |
Difficult to see any price bump in anything in this market environment.
|
His prices should see a bump but probably won’t in this climate.
|
If he gets a bump would he sit out the next game? Guy is kind of fragile.

Embiid is hobby boring. Nothing he does will change that.

I like it this way. Easier for me to get his stuff |
Is an achievement, is just don't effect the card market.
|
An MVP probably just increases his eventual floor than helps his immediate ceiling

Here is Embiid's list of Playoff scalps
2023 BKN Nets that aren't actually a Playoff team without Kyrie and Durant 2022 Raptors lead by Pascal and Van Fleet 2021 Wizards lead by Beal and Westbrook 2019 Nets lead by D. Lo and J. Allen 2018 Heat lead by Bam and old D. Wade Embiid is the fakest MVP we've ever seen. He's not seeing a bump. Terrible attitude and not really a winner at all. Peace |

is he like the Glass of the East |
He is playing pretty poorly in the postseason so far. PPG has fallen off from regular to postseason more than any other player. 14 point drop or something wacky like that.

surely his BPM is better than the nearly zero point zero he had last time? i remember doing the animal house meme and everything for phillyboy's benefit and BPM's a rate-of-production number, and there's volume/availability issues on top of that . . . i think in the end people will come to contextualize Embiid's MVP (this year's, anyway) as an impressive win but also to be weighed against (not alongside, at this point) his postseason production and overall availability, and I do think people will come to see that there was something of a rush to crown him MVP this season without something I'd call a recognizably complete-ish dialogue/dialectic that satisfied Joker-supporters' concerns/arguments. If there was such a vigorous/rigorous debate, I missed it; anyone with any promising, uh, leads? when available, one of the most spectacular players ever, perhaps a case for top 10 in that respect? (that means a possible top-5 case for Jokic IMO, maybe Giannis too, but that means downgrading the importance of accumulating rings in this team-context game. jokic was small-letters mvp for 3 seasons straight in this most competitive league ever, prima facie a top-5 caliber player whether or not he gets bubble murray for support throughout a playoff run. eye-test-wise, he's up there with maybe all but prime mj and bron from players I've seen play a lot since the mid'80s. on offense at any rate. defensively he's adequate? how great was Magic Johnson on defense now? anyway, also eye-test-wise, AvailableEmbiid is prima facie a top-10 player, no?). does his rate of production meet/exceed Shaq's (e.g.)? (if Embiid doubles his award shares over the remainder of his career, that'll put him just ahead of Shaq's award shares of 4.4-ish) |
Huge props to Embiid. Runner-up for two years and then won it this year. That is an impressive stretch of domination. Joker, too. Not too many guys have been top two in MVP voting for three years in a row. Insane how cheap his stuff is, and also how cheap the joker’s stuff is. We are watching two of the best ever players in the history of the game and they are just not appreciated.

This is actually his biggest issue and cannot be fixed. Do not collect Embiid hoping his cards will rocket, only collect if you're a huge fan. |

Agreed. Both are unbelievably cheap. But basketball market as a whole is in the tank. Not going to see those bumps any time soon |

Similarly Philly was fighting for position. I think if you took the games and reshuffled them around to have these last regular season games at the beginning or middle of the season the narrative is a lot different, but as it was you saw all the momentum building within that context. |

The hobby doesn't care about the regular season.

Did you read the OP? It's discussing his card values, and what it will take for them to go up. A Finals run is probably the only thing at this point. Which ain't happening when after 9/10 years the best team you've put away is ummmm? Hell I don't even know. |
