https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38001146/pro-football-hof-tabs-senior-coach-class-24-semifinalists For the senior's I would go Ken Anderson, Billy Anderson, Clay Matthews Jr. For coach/contributor I would go with Marty Schottenheimer |
Seniors: Tommy Nobis, Ken Anderson, Randy Gradishar
Coach/contributor: George Seifert |
Seniors: Tommy Nobis, Ken Anderson, Randy Gradishar
Coach/contributor: George Seifert
Never thought much of Seifert thought he rode Walsh coat tails and the team he had was already a SB team when he took over. |

I think Walsh is the best HC in NFL history (Homer take, I know, I love Bill B as well) but... one could make the case it doesn't happen without Seifert. Starting in 1981, not counting the 1982 strike-shortened seasons the D rank for points allowed for the 49ers were: 2, 4, 1 2, 3, 3, 8, 3, 2, 4, 3, 16, 6, 2, 4. That 1993 16th rank being an outlier. That's mostly Seifert. He was DC for 1983 on, and DB coach '81-'82 when they had the best DB quad in the league. He is the team's winningest coach (over Walsh). He won 2 Super Bowls. 55-10 and 49-26. If you read up on his defensive schemes they were every bit as progressive, complicated and revolutionary as Walsh's offense, and the players will say as much. The 1984 season is a great example. Walsh leaned into his "Genius" tag - Seifert was there every step of the way, but was always a bit more quiet and intense. |
Clay Matthews not being in already is a travesty

Clay Matthews for sure! That guy was steady and awesome
|
I'd be fine with any of the following
Steve McMichael Wilbur Marshall Hines Ward Clay Matthews Jr. Roger Craig Ken Anderson |

I'd probably have Anderson at the top of the list and Matthews at the bottom but all good picks. RE: Matthews, [S]I don't think comparing him to Brooks and Seau helps his case. Seau made 12 straight Pro Bowls, 6 1st Team All Pros, an All-Decades Team, and in the running for DPOY a number of times. Brooks made 11 Pro Bowls (10 straight), 5 1st Team All Pros, an All-Decades Team, and a DPoY. Matthews picked up 4 Pro Bowls. Didn't seem like he was an overly dominant player of his generation though I'll grant he very well could have been overlooked being in Cleveland.[/S] he stinks in Tecmo Super Bowl. Matthews doesn't do it for me, sorry. Hall of very good. Long career, stat compiler (as evidenced by the graphics above). Most career games for a linebacker in fact. Goes back to the argument many make in the Gore threads. Was he ever the best linebacker in the league? 4 Pro Bowls and one AP2 selection.
And if Matthews gets in, Cornelius Bennett should start getting fitted for his coat in a couple years as a senior member. Hell I'd take Clay Matthews III over Jr. |

If you watched Football from 1980-1988 (ish) then you can comment on Matthews
|
You probably loved Terrell Davis
Also how old are you?
Not a big TD fan actually. I enjoyed his play, I don’t put him in the HOF though. Age is irrelevant. He got beat out for the 80s HOF second team by John Anderson and Carl Banks. Several 80s linebackers are deservedly HOFers. He ain’t it. |
Seifert doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves for what he did to contribute to all of those Super Bowls, not just as a HC, but as an assistant.

You don’t understand football. It’s quite obvious I forgive you though
Do you have a sense for why Matthews wasn't earning more All Pro nods? To go towards what Foley mentioned, his yearly awards don't really measure up to other HoFers. Did he wind up overlapping with a lot of great linebackers? Had he played a decade before he would have been looked on more favorably? |
You’re wrong
You don’t understand football. It’s quite obvious I forgive you though
I’ll defer to those who do. Like HOF voters. Who have left him out thus far. And who didn’t consider him good enough for a decade team. And the media who didn’t think he was a Pro Bowler but four times in the longest career of a linebacker. Blame playing in Cleveland. Say I’m too young. On paper, he doesn’t have the pedigree. You can’t post graphics showing him having better stats than a couple HOFers then say I don’t understand football when I posit someone who is objectively better almost across the board. Bob Kraft as obvious cumtributor
|
Side note if you are a gambler
Art Modell will never get in the HOF. I don’t know what the odds are But it’s free money The NFL will fold before the riot that would happen in Canton |
Otitis Anderson
Sterling Sharpe Clay Matthews Jr Tom Coughlin |
