40 card base set
tevans333 07-19-2023 11:19 AM

Over $2 per card and no mention of parallels or autos?

zworykin 07-19-2023 11:22 AM

With basically no information, hard pass even if I were a bigger fan of GPK, VA, or both.

finfangfan 07-19-2023 11:26 AM

Checklist seems like all it is is a 40 card base set (20 cards with an A and B name) and likely no parallels.

tomahawk 07-19-2023 12:27 PM

I'm the exact target market for this, but I just can't justify $50 bucks with no sketch, parallel, or auto chances.

You'll probably be able to buy a full set for that same 50 bucks once this has been out for a little while.

mjaredc50 07-19-2023 12:35 PM

Top of the box says "Look for Exclusive Parallels"

Rictor 07-19-2023 12:36 PM

Needs autos and it would be awesome.

tomahawk 07-19-2023 12:41 PM
Top of the box says "Look for Exclusive Parallels"
I see that now. Boy, they've really gone out of their way to obscure what is probably the only selling point of this product for a large majority of those who might be interested. Well done, Topps!

tomahawk 07-19-2023 01:54 PM

Looks like Topps updated their site with the parallel list below:

Look for Exclusive Parallels:

Green: 1 Per Pack
Yellow: #’d to 100
Orange: #’d to 75
Blue: #’d to 50
Red: #’d to 25
Purple: #’d to 1
Printing Plate Parallels (CMYK) #’d to 1

glassofwater 07-19-2023 01:58 PM

you think this replacing the clerks 3 set that was announced?

tevans333 07-19-2023 02:34 PM

These were released to coincide with SDCC, they are also on sale at the show. We should at least start seeing them on eBay soon. Would be nice to know the odds or PR.

I really hope they upload the odds. I wanna know if I'm expecting 3 greens per $50 box or what. That's really a ton of parallels for an online set.

It says there is 1 Green per pack.

6 packs per box - 4 cards per pack

Look for Exclusive Parallels:

Green: 1 Per Pack

So, 6 Greens per box. :)!

jdandns 07-19-2023 06:47 PM

2 for me.

Good luck, ....smokers!

MotorboatJones 07-19-2023 07:08 PM

I can’t get into this. Never heard of View Askew and, upon review of a few trailers, I am not missing much.

jdandns 07-19-2023 08:10 PM

It's very difficult for (ViewAskew filmmaker) Kevin Smith's humor to come through in trailers, particularly censored ones. I vividly remember seeing the "Clerks" trailer before the movie was released, and thinking, wow, this is a film festival darling? But sure enough, after seeing the actual movie shortly after, I saw what all the hubbub was. It was an instant classic and remains one nearly 30 years later.

armyml 07-19-2023 10:41 PM

LOVE Kevin Smith and the view askew universe. I'm 40 so I grew up with it. In for 10 my buddy and I will probably just end up ripping after we close the store.

DioBrando 07-20-2023 01:55 PM

Big fan of the View Askewverse, but kinda hate gpk so easy pass for me

JaxSportsHub 07-20-2023 02:32 PM

I just ordered 4 boxes.
Not sure if I am a glutton or liked the product, but it will be fun.

Dukefett 07-20-2023 03:15 PM

It’s being sold in San Diego at Kevin Smith’s Mooby restaurant takeover outside the actual Com Hall, I’ll pick one or two up later today if I can.

Clerks and Chasing Amy are considered great films even by non-View Askew fans. They both received Criterion Collection releases, I believe, which is a badge of honor.

The rest of Kevin Smith's films are mostly a little too self-referential, full of inside jokes, and don't break any new ground. Dogma may be an exception.

That said, Mallrats, flawed as it is, has a special place in my heart because it's basically a love letter to comic fans. Chasing Amy stepped it up by having the main characters be comic book creators and having scenes take place at a comic con.

I've enjoyed Smith's work less and less as I've aged/matured (I saw his first couple films when I was a teenager) and as he's kind of gotten lazier and lazier as a writer and film maker. He does a better job when he directs TV shows, I think.

His problem is he's still telling the same dick and fart jokes at 52 years old. Like a lot of Gen Xers (of which I am one), he's never really grown up into an adult. I think he could have made a better film if he did a movie about aging (and his heart attack) and made it a stand alone story instead of Clerks 3. I think he's scared no one will watch his films if they don't take place in the View Askiewneverse.

Have you seen Red State?

BlowoutBuzz 07-21-2023 10:34 AM

One numbered parallel and that's it in one box I saw opened. Rest Green and base.

tomahawk 07-21-2023 11:22 AM

I loved Kevin Smith as a teen in the 90s, but his work has provided, let's be kind and say "diminishing returns" over the past 20 years or so. I don't think he's actually made anything very interesting since DOGMA.

No one will mistake him for a serious artist, but I do respect him as a businessman. His following has let him carve out a space to experiment with different models of releasing films (i.e. his J&SB reboot road show) and I appreciate him as a true independent spirit (really one of the very few) in the show business sphere.

That said, it does feel like he is married to the expectations of his fanbase, which exclusively revolves around lowbrow humor and/or (in the case of something like RED STATE) very low hanging sociopolitical fruit. I attended the J&SB Reboot road show that came near my home, and while it was entertaining to see Smith speak live (he's got an old school showman's gift of gab, to put it mildly) the audience was wholly comprised of guys in their 40s wearing grungy clothing and whooping and hollering at out-of-date references and d!ck jokes. It was a little depressing, and I don't think he's done much to find appeal with the younger generation, unfortunately. But the CLERKS through DOGMA is legendary!
One numbered parallel and that's it in one box I saw opened. Rest Green and base.
So if that is representative of the whole print run (it could've been a dud box), assuming 1 numbered card per box. Then The odds might be something like this:

Yellow 1:15.3
Orange 1:20.4
Blue 1:30.6
Red 1:61.2
Purple 1:1530
Plate C 1:1530
Plate M 1:1530
Plate Y 1:1530
Plate K 1:1530

Total print run of 10,200 boxes
1275 of each green
4590 of each base
