Do players often have cards in Topps Chrome but not Flagship?
Was looking for some Justin Steele cards. He has auto Chrome cards but no Flagship. Is this common?
I thought Chrome was Flagship with gloss. |
Definitely seems odd. He was in Heritage which usually aligns pretty well with Topps Chrome and either Series 1 or 2 flagship.

Swiss Chard the leafy vegetable, or Chard(onnay) the white wine varietal?
|
Word of the Day:
chards “Chard or Swiss chard (/tʃɑːrd/; Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris, Cicla Group and Flavescens Group) is a green leafy vegetable. In the cultivars of the Flavescens Group, the leaf stalks are large and often prepared separately from the leaf blade;[1] the Cicla Group is the leafy spinach beet. The leaf blade can be green or reddish; the leaf stalks are usually white, yellow or red.[2]“ |
Not yet but I hope they can collaborate one day. Imagine having a card with ohtani and charizard on it. Straight fire.

Bowman has a grass parallel, I don’t think they have gone as far as chards, yet.

I think he meant “shards,” which is Topps’ new relic offering. Like, shards of broken bats, or of Gatorade coolers beaten by angry pitchers.

That's pretty common. I'm a Twins fan/collector so here are two examples from last year:
Royce Lewis - Auto in Topps Chrome and then a base card in Topps Update and Topps Chrome Update Griffin Jax - Auto in Topps Chrome, but didn't get a flagship or base Chrome card |
We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams. Never limit Topps Chrome to just a shinier Flagship. NEVER.

Just saw this note this morning... Steele past 32 starts: 16-4 183-2/3 inn 20.7 K-BB% 48.8 GB% 2.25 ERA 2.82 FIP Source: https://twitter.com/Underdog__MLB/status/1699054657543225570 |
I wouldn't say it's common but definitely infrequent.
As a Cubs fan, I really hoped to see him in 2022 flagship/chrome, since he debuted in 2021, because I loved the 2022 design. But here we are in August 2023 still waiting on the non-auto rookie card of a guy that first debuted in 2021. It happens. |
Matt Duffy (1989) had a Topps Chrome autograph, Triple Threads autograph, an Insert autograph in flagship, while his only base card was in Allen & Ginter.
