Best and Worst Looking Sticker Autos
Sticker autos will always be a part of the hobby.. whether we like it or not
Most of the time they look horrible, but sometimes they do look pretty good I just picked this up and wanted an excuse to share it. I think the sticker autos look as good as sticker autos can look on this triple threads: Show off your favorite sticker autos Also feel free to show off your worst. I was never a fan of these silver stickers |
Mentioned a few times here.
My favorite sticker autograph cards are the Fresh Ink sets from the 1999-2000 Fleer Focus/Mystique/Ultra products. Many mistakenly think that they are hard-signed because the stickers blend in well with the cards, in general. Pulled a few from Mystique. Below is one of them: Below are the ones from Focus and Ultra, respectively (not mine): https://www.comc.com/Cards/Basketball/1999-00/Fleer_Focus_-_Fresh_Ink/_SCPA/Scott_Padgett/1533727 https://www.comc.com/Cards/Basketball/1999-00/Fleer_Ultra_-_Fresh_Ink/_MACA/Marcus_Camby/1521576/Ungraded/COMC/EX-NM Edit - added a link below for a Marbury Mystique Fresh Ink card with the autograph sticker placed upside down: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374806731037?hash=item574438d91d:g:3ncAAOSwTF1krZLD&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8BI5mGc5dXmeCxoaMf64vFQp9rPbK5TGd4t6VDlFFaHoXiO%2FwYYMz21kZTyyYNmyXWOKKgjSU56VhuOH%2F2kvWKY8dyirGozY%2FnOjtQlwX776lCJ%2FvqQWvHL%2B0hXcBpr1PuIBuiGlZqA73svgmvn1ocTKTGTqf5S0xo6Q4wUdnzin7sZG%2FnuvpwwsuTaw0Q0e05aP1pekFUWsy1n%2F5izloE7PhDwkSRb66%2B5cd%2FkEpoh9Ix%2FIO5klLPqYoNNsZSv7Odd5uWRUoYTsgpRpqmlH0B%2FxgDmsjq%2FOUt7q6nGAajxShxCx7NAmROyG%2Ft0tPLT%2Bqw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6KBs8LOYg |
Hate stickers. But if I had a vote it would be 2004-05 UD Pro Sigs. There's a nice designated location for the sticker with a holofoil border.
|
They always look equally horrible.

Some definitely look worse than others, but I have yet to find one I would put in my collection. |
There's no such thing as a good looking sticker auto. It goes against the very magic of a signed card and a good looking/cool card.
|
I hate sticker autos as much as anyone, but I do have a couple for my player PC and also this Lineage set:
It helps that I love the 93-94 Upper Deck SE design. But yeah, stickers bad. |

Asking this question is like asking who would look better with a head full of hair - Michael Jordan, Harold Miner, Patrick Stewart, or Clyde Drexler. There is no “better” - just all bad. |

Precisely. It’s like putting a wig on a bald dude and trying to pass it as a full head of natural hair. A sticker auto on a card can never be done better or right. It’s all bad. It’s simply a deception. |

I don't like sticker autos but I do have some in my PC.
I don't mind this Kobe and MJ as they don't look horrible. |
Sticker autos will always be a part of the hobby.. whether we like it or not
Sticker autos are a part of the hobby because people still buy products with sticker autos. Sad but true. I don't ever buy products with sticker autos and I don't have any sticker auto cards in my PC. That's why I'm proud not to be able to show you any. |
Sticker autos are in every single product these days…
Didn’t know so many people were too good for sticker autos (I prefer on card too!!) |

^This This thread got me to thinking... Does anyone know which basketball card was the first one issued with this *(*&*^&*(& sticker crap? I want to know who is to blame....ha |

True overall...but my personal choice is to not contribute to the demand for these items. |

Start the boycott! |

My way of thinking as well. I am glad that sticker autos are out there though for collectors to have a cheaper alternative to on-card. |
I need to forgive myself for I have sinned...I have sold some of these that I pulled from packs rather than burning them at the stake...oh well it is just cards after all

Seriously though, tie companies will take as many short cuts and cost saving measures as the consumer will allow them to. We are the idiots who accepted wal mart jerseys, sticker autos and redemptions, because we are the idiot degenerate gamblers. They know you will buy no matter what. When people view cards as simply a way to transfer money, it doesn’t matter what they produce. Flipper bois and degenerate gamblers don’t care. Only collectors do. |
Hands down best looking sticker autos imo are the draft night autos that used to be in Status but are in Recon now. The stickers are big w the draft night logo, and I love that these are signed on draft night.

I've only collected a single sticker auto set (non basketball) where having a sticker makes sense based on the acetate nature of the card and design (like it would be weird to put in a clear acetate spot or sign over a stained glass design):

I don't see how products like Prizm Draft and Bowman Chrome U could exist at their current price points (which is already too high) and get printed relatively on time without stickers. But it's an absolute disgrace that high end products like Immaculate are moving towards stickers and still selling out instead of being rejected by the market. That is a seriously dangerous trend. |
Best and Worst Looking Sticker Autos
The worst sticker autos that bother me A LOT have been in Revolution. The sticker (for vets) doesn't fit in the designated auto and rolls over into the rest of the card. Here's an example from an eBay listing:
