Is it jag”wires” or jag”wars”?

Is this a regional pronunciation difference or is one absolutely proper and correct?

Any other strange or uncertain sounding terms you’ve hear this first official NFL weekend?

hairysasquatch 09-10-2023 01:29 PM

Neither - it's jag-YOO-whars

jplarson 09-10-2023 01:36 PM

TheFrenzy 09-10-2023 01:43 PM

YAG-yoo-wahrs.

Another one I’ve heard is:

Is it “Pur”dy or “Pray“dy by delusional 49er fans.

Josh611 09-10-2023 08:35 PM

It’s the Jags.

IronCladLou 09-10-2023 11:53 PM

I had never heard Jag Wires until the USA beamed to my TV.

Now I can't unhear it.

I also heard it pronounced as jag"wires" by Shea Cornette of ESPN radio today.

It continues to haunt me as well.

This is the correct way to pronounce that haughty vehicle line, with a British accent.

I always grew up (Florida) with it being "Jag-wars". Then the car commercial for the Jaguar came out and some people started with the three syllable "Shjag-you-war." I never understood the "jag-wire" crowd or where they got it from.

jhssketchcards 09-11-2023 08:29 AM

If you’re British it’s “”jeg-u-wors”

What region of the country pronounces it jag”wires”?

Above the Rim 09-11-2023 11:07 PM

Jag wires - no, just no.
Jag Wars - if you say "wars" as when countries fight, then that's not right either.
I'm going with Jag wAArs - litlte different than just wars

Yes, that’s the way I typically pronounce it (McGwire). But, dictionary.com says “jag-wahr, -yoo-ahr; especially British jag-yoo-er “.
