Jordan Rookie #57
2 Attachment(s)
I posted this as a reply in another thread, but thought it might be better to ask in its own thread (apologies as I am new to posting here)...
I have the opportunity to buy an MJ rookie card (amongst many other cards). The gentlemen who is selling it is older, has no kids to pass his collection onto and wants people to see them. He sent me these two pics. I am going to see it in person Friday. I know the pics are pretty rough, but can anyone spot anything in them to make me think twice? |
need better pictures to see some more detail
|
From the pictures I see a perfectly centered Jordan front and back with a perfectly white back. This does not end well for 99.999% of people trying to buy this card raw.
Older guys can scam as well. ;) https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/82-year-old-colorado-man-charged-in-800000-sports-card-fraud-scheme/ |
nope. even with the bad pics its a no.
|
I don’t think it is real.
|
Pretty much any Jordan RC that's not graded is fake, especially in that condition
|
Ask him to leave it in the sun for another week.
|
It's absolutely impossible to tell from those pics, even when blown up.
As far as any Jordan not graded being fake.... just not true but it's better safe than sorry. |
Thanks all!
Wow...I guess I need to rethink my outlook on the world today...I like to think the world is a better place, but I guess not. That said, I am still going to go and see the card. Any pointers or anything specific I should be on the lookout for? I will be cognizant if its too white on the back. Any other thoughts? |

If it's fake, he's a good con man by putting it an old fashioned screw down.

Will be sure to read these thoroughly! |
looks so trimmed it doesn't fit the screwdown recessed area
|
Check for evidence of sediment in and around the 4 brass plated screws. Usually a tell-tale sign of dysentary which should date this beauty right in line with the Battle of Gettysburg.
If so, 'grats on your new Maserati. |

Believe that is a newer pro-mold case which is supposed to give the card a 3D look. If that is a new case, the buyer should run for the hills. :)! https://www.pro-mold.com/pc11.html |
Congrats!!!!!
On the worst pictures I've ever seen online. J/k definitely get it out of the holder and penny sleeve to take more pics. Not a penny before! Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk |

It looks like that card is in a newer screwdown. If it is, that is another big red flag. I am all for buying raw cards, but I wouldn't deal with a 1986 Fleer Jordan, 1952 Mantle, or 1953 Mantle not in a PSA/SGC slab. |

Couldn’t be more wrong |

Lmao ok guy. Where are you finding all these pristine Jordan’s? All in grandmas attic I’m sure  |

The vast majority of those are probably lost forever. For every one real raw Jordan out there, there are 50 fake ones. If you see someone on Facebook or Craigslist selling a Jordan, chances are it is a fake. |
I thought PSA confirmed Star was his RC?
Or is that blatant pump by them over? |
My dad has two completely real #57s that are raw. He bought them from a dealer a long time ago and just has never gotten them graded bc he's 73 and didn't want to "fool with that crap" (granted they likely wouldn't be over a 6 each anyway). But still. Raws are out there.

I’m sure a good number are gone or in really rough shape but there are real ones out there. No denying that the fakes are plentiful. |
