I’ve seen a bunch of full Gil’s Arena episodes. As dumb as that group is (which also includes Rashad McCants, lol) it’s entertaining for how off the rails it gets.

It’s also actual racism on display. Double the entertainment factor!

Sheryl Swoopes was even on there recently saying black people can’t be racist.

Gilbert is a racist.

Hopefully he gets banned from the tube one day

Sometimes Arenas makes some decent points. But mostly he's a moron.

The Americans have actually been so 1 dimensional for decades. Which is why they struggle at the FIBA level when they should blow away the competition. How come we don't see them destroy that comp? Especially if Euros are such horrific defenders?

Lol.

I would say it has more to do with the league being younger than ever before. As well as too much space.

I'd also say that BBIQ is the lowest it has ever been in the NBA. It's basically pickup games at the YMCA now. Every game is like an all-star game, where you trade baskets for 46 minutes then play defense for 2 minutes.

What if expending greater energy on defense for the 46 minutes is the less smart strategy?

The 3 pointer has spaced things out more, is all

Lol ok bud. It's tough to watch and is why viewership is down.

I like some of the "new" media. Players getting their own voices. I really just want to listen to behind the scene stories not analysis. Generally, the players are terrible at asking questions and don't really follow up on anything interesting. Which makes some sense, since they are not journalists after all.

As far as BBIQ. Something stuck with me when Isiah said it on NBA gametime. The league is so analytic driven now and the floor spacing "figured" out. Every team runs the same general offense. Players are in the same spots (corner 3's). You ISO/Pick and Roll your best player in the middle of the floor every time down. Isiah mentioned that there wasn't anything for the point guard to figure out as far as defensive rotations, doubles ,etc. It is all very homogenic. Sure feels like it when you are watching. Teams use to have varying styles, you don't see that much anymore.

Gilbert is an idiot. The reason defense is awful in the NBA is:
1. There have been 20 years of rule changes to favor offenses
2. The massive increase in three pointers taken and emphasis on analytics
3. No one wants to do it (the best players are offensive specialists and take off on defense)
4. The casual “fans” don’t want defense. They want high scores.

The league now realizes it’s a problem, but it’s a problem of their own making. I’m sure they will try to cut back on some of the pro offense officiating changes they have made, but it’s bonkers. Scoring 30 points a game isn’t even impressive anymore.

Watched the NBA all through the 90's and early 2000's. It's a joke now. Entertaining as far as watching action happen but beyond that it's a trash league.

pac213up 03-05-2024 12:54 PM

Historically these things ebb and flow. Although the NBA wants high scoring games, my guess is this has swung to far in favor of offense. Let the defenders muck it up a bit & call traveling.

They have a solid one. He's probably a back up on a contender. They just chose not to play him much until they lost enough games

drobfan8 03-05-2024 08:23 PM

I'm gonna stuck to the 00s from about 2005 to 2015 was a really great era of basketball

I was addressing your low-BBIQ claim. In the context of the constraints of today's game I don't see low-BBIQ ball being played.

Now the people who make the league rules might have low-IQ issues. I'm not saying the product can't be improved in some way to diminish scoring levels. It's nice that they finally got around to stopping things like shooters being rewarded for unnatural (even sideways) kickouts into the defender's space. JVG had a field day with that obvious idiocy for how many years?

spurs50fan 03-07-2024 12:11 PM

Luka scored 73 this year and said this prior "scoring is easier in the NBA". His comparison wasn't college...

Kobe also elaborated that these amateur clubs add to it because of how it is being taught.

Arenas just shoots off...at the mouth sometimes :coffee:

The USA has won 7 of the 8 Olympic Gold Medals since NBA players have been allowed. The only time they didn't was 2004 when they didn't send their best players. There were 12 American players on all NBA teams and only 1 was on the Olympic team. No Kobe, No Shaq, No KG, No T-Mac, No Jason Kidd.

You can argue that the best players are foreign but the US has more depth. Good luck beating the USA in Paris.

But, but, but the NBA is so much stronger than the Euroleague, yet you're only winning by a small margin in the final. Even when you send the best! :D

You should be like Jordans team and killing everyone. You're league is soooooooo much stronger and the Euros are killing the NBA defense. :p

The US teams at the Olympics win because of 2 main reasons. Defensive pressure to get easy baskets and their athleticism.

The NBA is a 1 on 1 league with poor fundamentals. It's quite laughable to see players take 5 steps in every game. You've actually gotten away with 3 steps forever, when the rule originaly was 2. Now they make things easier and easier because your fundamentals are so bad. No post game anymore. Just 3s, dunks and free throws.

No, he's not the solid PG. Backup at best, however he's not backing up a true PG either.

I figured he would say bring a gun to the game.
