What % value do Ohtani singles and wax represent in your collection?
How invested are you into the current top star in baseball?
|
no idea

Only have 1 Ohtani card

Me too. The math was easy to figure out. |
No idea but I was buying 2018 products heavily searching for Gleyber Torres, Ohtani just came as a side order. I have already sold a few of my high end Ohtani cards but still have quite the stash, never figured out what percent as my collection of cards is pretty large so I would say at best 1 percent.

One relatively inexpensive auto card only.

Great poll!

A line every guy hopes to hear one day. :)! |
Less than a day’s work. I’m sweating bullets.

According to Beckett, I have 65 Ohtani cards worth $670. The majority are base cards from sets I collect yearly. The few parallels and 1 relic I own are from boxes I have opened to try and put sets together like Walmart Holiday, Opening Day, or Big League. And then there is the three Topps Dynamic Duals cards I bought because he was on them with Masahiro Tanaka, whom I PC.

I have 2 Ohtani cards that I actually care about.
|
I have a single ohtani card that I spent $20 for.

Does anyone on Blowout actually place any value on the consensus opinions of this forum? As popular as Ohtani has been over the past few years, it seems like no one really bought into him very heavily.

It’s possible many have bought and then sold. This specific thread is inquiring about your current holdings. |
Probably 80%. About $10k. This is if we are only talking about PC. If I include stuff in my ebay inventory it's more like 25%.

I don't think the people around here are really the Ohtani crowd - we tend to run more niche than that.

I had a framed Transcendent RC /50 that I bought at the National and flipped when he signed in LA. I’m down to ZERO Ohtani cards. I’d like to get an auto, but I’ll hold off for the panic sellers.

Don’t have any

remember that most people here think Trout sucks |

My biggest Ohtani card is one where Ippei is in the background. So that value has exploded lol.

I suspect no one will want to admit buying into Ohtani with this dark cloud hanging over his head, but I'll say that I flat out missed the boat. His prices were out of hand when I had any interest in buying his cards, but regardless, my attention was elsewhere (Vladdy). I wish I had landed a Foilboard /190 RC or an auto, but again, I didn't want to take money away from landing a Vladdy for the PC. I didn't make any significant Ohtani buys until last year in Chicago. |
ive bought plenty of Ohtanis over the years. its all part of collecting

I don't have a problem admitting I bought Ohtani cards the last couple of years. I also kept two rookie autos that I pack pulled during his rookie year. There's nothing shameful or anything to be embarrassed about. Nobody knew something like this was a possibility. I bought his cards because he is a fun player to watch. I just can't pinpoint the percentage of value his cards are in my collection because i collect all sports and wrestling so in the grand scheme of things it's probably miniscule |

I think many/most hobbyists have traded Ohtanis like stocks over the last five years - his cards have displayed a great deal of volatility during that period and that action tends to attract the speculator segment of the hobby. Many “best “ players have very few true collectors because they are price prohibitive and it’s not easy to build up a satisfying collection due to cost and demand from other hobbyists who like to “play” his cards. |
