What is the 2nd most "iconic" basketball card of all time?

I think we can all agree #1 is the 1986 Fleer MJ.

So what do you think is #2? I only had 9 options so all viable candidates could not be included. I tried to represent all eras fairly.

jkampis 05-03-2024 07:44 PM

It’s the Bird-Magic-Dr. J, easily.

hermanotarjeta 05-03-2024 07:45 PM

I’ll be the first to vote.

Love or hate the player, the exquisite Lebron RPA introduced the new standard of high end sports card excellence that we know of today.

Odd choice to put Stephen Curry chrome over his National Treasures RPA.

And the answer has to be Lebron Exquisite RPA. By a long stretch.

Kind of had a feeling it would be between the 1980 Bird/Magic and 2003 Exquisite LeBron. It's a tough one and there is no right answer. There will never be another RC where 2 of the top 10 GOATs is on one card. On the flip side, the LeBron card ushered in the #/ed era of super rare RC. It's all preference.

My mind immediately went to '61 Wilt. The classic uncomplicated basketball aesthetic. Closely linked with the 1957 Topps Russell. Apparently I'm the only one.

You’re a weirdo

Shocking

Exquisite LeBron followed by the Kobe Chrome RC and the Vintage RCs of Russell, Mikan, Chamberlain and Jabbar.

minnesotachill 05-07-2024 07:12 PM

The Kobe Chrome rookie is my pick.

It ushered in the Topps Chrome era, which has also become a flagship in all sports.
I enjoy the Lebron Exquisite but only a handful of people have ever been able to say they owned one.

Without a doubt.

drobfan8 05-09-2024 06:15 AM

Isn't it the Jordan Scoring King?

Should be at least on the list.

Or is it Rookie only?

rifleman69 05-09-2024 08:38 AM

Way back in the 90's, it had to be the 69-70 Alcindor with Bird/Magic/DrJ a close third.

eastbayak 05-09-2024 09:28 AM

Easily 03-04 Exquisite LeBron

Bcr 05-09-2024 10:48 AM

1980 Topps Bird/Magic is the only answer

This is a joke right?

From the list, I'd vote Bird/Magic RC but I also think the 1997-98 PMG Red Jordan is up there as well.

TheFrenzy 05-09-2024 03:21 PM

I voted silver Luka simply because it was the face of the pandemic pump which drew millions of new collectors to the hobby.

20 years from now, we'll have threads asking people when they started collecting and the most common answer will be "during the pandemic."

And this will be the card that they all chased.

peterose4hof 05-09-2024 03:48 PM

Bird/Magic

I honesty don't know what the Lebron Exquisite even looks like.

I also agree with this. Give it time. But it's incredibly iconic. Although it needs staying power, Luka needs to become a top 10 type guy. Or the best of this generation.

I agree here also.

I've searched Exquisite almost every day since 2004. But most people would not recognise it.

I really don't think it's that iconic

People are confusing iconic and important

The LeBron is a very important card… and iconic in it’s own right but to a lesser degree

But 2nd all time is laughable

I would say that about the Bird-Magic RC. People are confusing how important they were to the NBA with the fact that they aren't valued in the hobby. Kobe and LeBron are much more iconic than Bird-Magic.

Wrong

But that’s typical

Nomad 05-09-2024 05:42 PM

I gotta go with the only card I actually lust after owning and with the overall best design. PMG Jordan red.
