USPS Not Scanning Packages

I shipped out 20 packages Tuesday afternoon and got them all scanned it at the front counter at USPS. Only 1 package (the only priority mail) has updated from the “USPS is in possession of item” stage. The rest of the packages still say they’re in possession. My local P.O. said I shouldn’t be worried. Has anyone had this happen before? Luckily, most of the packages are less than $100, so I’m saved from Ground Advantage insurance, but this is still annoying.

Happens to me from time to time and they've always made it to their destination on time with other scans along the way. Still annoying, but this is why I at least drop them at the counter so I can get a receipt and they get the initial scan.

Happens all the time. Had lots show as "USPS is in possession of item" only to have it delivered with no updates. Scans have been hit or miss for me lately.

Thanks everyone. I’m trying not worry since it’s 20 packages. Seems insane to me that 20 packages get lost when they were all directly scanned in.

I've been on the receiving side where the tracking shows "shipping label created" and then no updates after that. Every time this has happened the package has shown up. Although sometimes it has taken a few weeks from the shipping date.

The times I haven't had some packages get delivered is after being scanned a couple times along the way but then disappearing and never finally being delivered. I've also had a package that was marked as delivered never show up. That one really got me upset since I couldn't even try to get a follow up on it since everybody I spoke with at USPS just kept telling me "I don't understand the problem, it says we delivered it".

Unless I'm reading wrong it's been 2 days? They're not "lost", they're just in transit. Relax, it will be fine.

When a package shows up as "delivered" but you didn't get it, that usually means that it was misdelivered to someone nearby with a similar address to yours.

I've got two neighbors with similar addresses to mine, and I occasionally get their mail and they occasionally get mine.

I have 2 young ladies that live across the street from me. I was mistakenly delivered a priority mail package. It was sent using one of those cardboard envelopes. It was partially ripped open. You could clearly see it was an "adult toy". I had to wait until I knew they were gone and run over and drop it on their porch. I would have never been able to ring the doorbell and hand it to them.

Not really card related but your post made me think of this.

What if they have Ring and see you dropping it off opened. They'll probably think what a creep. LOL. J/k.

A similar thing happened to me once. I sent my girlfriend over to drop it off. I guess they got to talking because she didn't come back for a few hours.

"Talking" :cry:

I USPS a bunch to mail stuff for work (the "mailbox rule" is different for USPS v UPS/FedEx), and it's fairly common for it to take a day or two to update that USPS has the package even when I drop it off, and sometimes it takes 2-3 days to update that it was delivered. Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

Newest problem: package scanned in on January 24th and has not moved since the “usps is in possession of item” stage.

I recently had a package that went 18 days without showing movement on the tracking number. It was shipped, went from the pickup location to another hub and then nothing. It eventually arrived, but 18 days without a tracking update?!

Bergkamp11 01-27-2025 06:17 PM

"has not moved" - that's an assumption. What usually happens is USPS has not done any Update scans since it has been in transit. The Tracking# is not showing it, but the package is likely getting closer to its destination

Seeing a lot of this lately...packages arrive and have had 3 or 4 lately arrive with zero scans at all.

I'm waiting for a card right now that's been delayed and am hoping this is what happened.

Long shot, but any chance you had a BWJ destined for the East Coast in your pile? :)

I have had so much trouble with this lately, at least 4 times in a month. I have had mad people on eBay asking where their items are and I can’t give them an answer because there is no tracking information because they have not scanned it

Hahaha I get these questions weekly.

Most recent situation, USPS didn’t scan until it arrived to the buyer’s regional (or local) office….what?!

DylanPowers92 01-27-2025 07:01 PM

yep, recently had a card sit at a hub for 9 days without a scan or update and then it randomly started moving and was delivered a couple days later. also had another card make it to the state of the buyer (out west) only to randomly be re-routed back to the Midwest, to then make it's way back the destination state and be delivered late as a result. USPS has been very weird with scans recently

It was the weekend. I know things move on the weekend but I really wouldn't be worried about no scans when it's barely had a full business day.

Had one deliver today....bought on 1/13 with zero scans, ever.

mfw13 01-27-2025 08:35 PM

This is what happens when you put people in charge of the USPS who are actively trying to destroy it.....good employees leave and don't get replaced, and understaffing becomes endemic.

And with Trump instituting a federal hiring freeze, things at the USPS are going to get worse before they get better.

BlowoutBuzz 01-27-2025 11:50 PM

And some weird multi-day add-on loops that are way out of the way (many states away) lately.

PuddleMonkey 01-28-2025 12:01 AM

I asked my mail lady if she wanted to scan my package today. She declined.
