Read today that Negro League will be merged with MLB stats….

If true, what do you think about it? I think it’s a huge, unnecessary, ridiculous nightmare for us as Collectors!:doh::doh:
Leave History alone!

They are already combined in Baseball Reference so I won't notice a difference.

Why do you think it is a nightmare for collectors?

Leave history alone or have history be more accurate??

but why would you think that it will be a nightmare for collectors? I don't see it as being a noticeable difference for fans and collectors

Huh? This is a strange post

They did this awhile ago on Baseball reference and you cannot tell the difference.

Also, this is history, so not sure how they are not "leaving it alone".

Because now…. Who’s the greatest? Who has the highest ( insert stat ) ?
These guys never played each other, so which Pitcher has the lowest ERA? Who is the Home Run King? What happens to the $1 million card I just bought who had ( xyz ) as the greatest ( name the MLB stat )

Just because we live in the computer age, doesn’t mean we need to use that technology and combine Leagues to “act as if” player A who pitched in one League faced Player B as a hitter from another.

I could go on and on ….but am more interested to see what you guys/gals have to say…I only collect active player rookie and prospect cards, so don’t really have a dog in this fight —- it just doesn’t seem right ( to me ) though …..

hammertime 05-28-2024 06:22 PM

I think it makes sense, just a shame that the negro league stats are so incomplete.

Charismatic44th 05-28-2024 06:22 PM

Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson are now GOAT status

None of those stats have been changed on baseball-reference. It looks the same.

Babe Ruth never faced Nolan Ryan.

Negro League seasons weren't long enough for any of the players to get enough counting stats to take over records.

and there's a breakdown of split stats based on the leagues the players were in

Who did you think was the home run king before today, Bonds or Aaron?

Perhaps the deeper issue is this appears to be just another attempt to make what isn’t, what is ….
We are now merging 2 different Leagues and ‘acting as if’ the Players faced each other. If I’m the only here that finds that absurd??? …then so be it …..

BAHoopla 05-28-2024 06:37 PM

I think this is awesome..and this thread was so unnecessary

Can always count on someone calling something they don't agree with "woke".

Is this yet another thread where your posting while on meds? They always seem to be racially motivated. I won't be surprised when OP deletes his responses like all the other questionable threads he makes

Ah yes, there it is! So you don't agree with something so Its called woke got it. Because the players are from the negro leagues and the MLB decided to count the stats they had (none of these stats are record-breaking btw or effect anything statistically for anyone) its being called WOKE.

Yes, yes you are absurd for this train of thought and they are not acting like they faced each other, you can compare them but it says they played in two different leagues so yes again you are absurd for this train of thought.

yes, yes you are. It is a very strange soapbox to stand on.

Pretty sure an overwhelming majority of collectors and fans hearing this news and immediately thought 'eh, whatever, sounds good'.

Ok that was sort of funny but dark. But funny. It is corrected

Handsome Wes 05-28-2024 06:46 PM

...i kinda thought that MLB had already done this.

I do wish that they fudged the numbers a little bit more so that Hank Aaron's Negro League totals (only five, after Integration) would put him back on top as MLB's HR king.

Side note, I wish that Baseball Reference had a filter on its Career pages that allowed you to hide all the players from before 1903 and also before 1947.

You look at single season WAR and... I get it, Old Hoss Hadburn put up great numbers against people who just arrived at the ballpark after a day in the coal mines. That doesn't really tell me anything about how to measure statistical seasons nowadays.

Scottish Punk 05-28-2024 06:47 PM

This is a fail thread full of woke. Did I do that right?

It's funny to me what things always tend to tick the op off into making a thread about before regretting
