RIP Gene.
From what I am seeing the "assumption" being made is some sort of gas leak. Hope they were already asleep and didn't suffer. |
Chase scene from "The French Connection."
RIP, Gene. |
Man this sucks, but for him anyway 95 is a full life. Hoosiers, especially here in the Hoosier State is an all time great movie. I've been to that arena a few times, awesome! Sounds like a carbon monoxide leak possibly.
|
I happen to have seen a few of his films in the last month or so- notably Heist and Get Shorty. I loved him in just about every role he played. Great actor with the chops to do intense drama and comedy with equal effectiveness. My last movie memory of him is as Harry Zim getting his ass whooped by Miami gangster Ray Bones- comedy gold.
He was incredible in so many films, although I really liked Hoosiers as a kid, his role as sheriff Little Bill in Unforgiven is probably the one where I started to realize just how great of an actor he was and started to go back and rewatch a bunch of his previous movies. Some of my other favorites Royal Tenenbaums Crimson Tide Mississippi Burning what a career |
French Connection is a must watch.
What a wonderful actor. The interaction between Gene and Denzel in Crimson Tide was great |

One of the greatest actors to ever live. He elevated everything he was in.
|
One of the greats.
|
I always found Hoosiers boring. Popeye Doyle and Little Bill are his defining roles to me.

Hear, hear. Well said. One of mine and one of my Father's all-time favorite actors. So many great roles. The Conversation Superman Uncommon Valor Bat 21 The Firm The Royal Tenenbaums Unforgiven Crimson Tide Quick and the Dead Hoosiers Mississippi Burning French Connection R.I.P. to a Legend |
Do we have the official BO Coroners report yet?

Heart attack over the current price of eggs? Just a wild guess. |
Enemy of the State was super underrated for what it was at the time
Obviously now it’s dumb But in 1998? That was legit |

Sorry, I took the alcoholism comment from the article. I understand it sounds harsh. I apologize to any I offended. I will go back and edit it. |
Damn, this one really sucks. He was the type of actor who consistently elevated the material and even though he was kind of surly with little patience for fools, he just held everyone to a certain standard, including himself.
The ending scene of The Conversation is one of my favorite film scenes all time. That has to be my favorite role of his. Although I really believe he turned Behind Enemy Lines from a schlock picture to pretty damn watchable due to his performance alone. |
Last report I read fire dept said there was no gas leaks. Police said there was an open bottle of pills strewn on the bathroom counter. Sounds like maybe double suicide or maybe Hackman died of natural causes and then his wife took her own life.

The dog as well? |
The dog as well?
Possibly. The dog was found in a kennel and Hackman and his wife's bodies were mummified so it sounds like they had been dead for a while before they were found. Maybe the dog died of starvation being locked in the crate. They had two other dogs that were found wandering around the property. |
