94 UD mantle/Griffey
Looking to buy some 94 UD Boxes to go Griffey Mantle hunting. Were they inserted into retail and jumbo boxes from all regions? Was there Hobby boxes back then and were they in it? finding different answers online

GL Hunting. That's a whale of a card.
|
1,500 copies of the card spread out over 200,000 cases :D:)!
|
I found mine randomly inserted in a box of UD Spectrum, but can't remember if it was 2007,2008 or 2009. Was a long time ago.
|
Card is iconic. Good luck. Hopefully both autos are sharp.
|
best to go ahead and buy it outright IMO

So there is a chance. |

"Randomly inserted into Series One retail packs were 3,000 Ken Griffey, Jr./Mickey Mantle autographed cards. UD had each player sign 2,000 cards -- 1,000 individually and 1,000 dual-signed cards. The Griffey/Mantle dual autograph is considered by many to be one of the greatest autographed baseball cards of the 1990s. Each card has an Upper Deck Authenticated holographic sticker on the reverse side. These cards were found in standard retail boxes (not jumbo or mini-jumbos). Copies of the dual Griffey/Mantle Auto was later sold by Upper Deck direct via Upper Deck Authentics and a limited number were packed out as a buyback in 2008 Upper Deck Spectrum." |

The boxes that have the chance to get one SAY the Mantle Griffey is in it on the box. Those boxes get over $700 last I saw. Long odds. |
Got mine in 2018, think I purchased 30+ series 1 boxes over the course of 7-8 months.
Biggest issue you'll be facing is the bricking. |
Eric’s right - you are better to just buy it. Imagine buying 50 boxes and getting only the individual (either one) or none.
Be careful with graded copies and how they are labeled. Many out there were packed out as individual autos that got Griffey added later. The companies are wildly inconsistent on detecting and showing this. |
this is the sticker you want....not in other boxes

Boxes way too expensive to chase that card.
If they were $100, it might be worth ripping a case. But $400-600 per box....nope |

UD claims that there is no “master list” for the serial numbers and which cards were signed by one or both. They claim it never existed - which is also untrue |

For the one I purchased I wanted verification that it was legit dual signed and not signed by Griffey later on. I’ll be using this screenshot moving forward. Thank you!! UPDATE: just called - UD stated that UD cannot and will not comment on authentication of items prior to losing the license for MLB. So… where does that leave us? |
It existed in 2019, contacted them on two different occasions for the dual/single Mantle.
At the National that year struck up a conversation with one of their reps regarding this card specifically. Apparently Mantle couldn't complete his run of dual autographs so the ones that KG Jr. signed first just became additional stand alone Griffey autos. |
Would’ve been such a simple solution to, gee I don’t know, number them?!?
