|
Lakers fans should be celebrating.
|
First reaction is a shrug. Very rich people selling an asset to other very rich people.
|
We will need to sell our investmentz in order to afford ticketz at the crypto.com arena.

If he spends like he does with the Dodgers it will be good news for Laker fans. I don't think he would be worried about going into the second apron. Similar to the Warriors. I would expect some high profile signs/trades. His goal is to build a super team.

He'll have to be more crafty in the NBA than in MLB with the salary cap and aprons. |
Must be nice !!

Of course, but I don't think paying penalties is going to stop him like many other owners. That is what I am trying to get at. |

Definitely the kind of owner you want to have as a fan of a team. |

It's worked out well for Steve Ballmer. |

I would have even more respect for him if he is wise enough to cut ties with the teams’s aging superstar. |

I don't think the penalties scare the teams overall as much as all the restrictions that make going into the 2nd apron not responsible for more than a year. |

The only thing this move prompted me to do was perform a deep dive for Jeanie noodz.
Definitely worth. Had no idea Phil was runnin that triangle offense decades after the Bulls disbanded. |
Smart money getting out of the NBA?

Yes, before the next CBA. |

2nd apron is not just a money restriction, there are hard rules/caps that can't be broken. It's completely different from baseball. |
Shouldn't this actually read UAE buys the Lakers using Mark Walter as a proxy. NBA getting into the sports-washing business boys.

do you have any proof for this claim? |

Surely its just coincidental timing but Mark Walter's TWG global got a $10 billion dollar capital investment from Mubadala Capital (a UAE sovereign wealth fund- state owned) and then 2 months later buys the Lakers. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250429513906/en/TWG-Global-and-Mubadala-Capital-to-Enter-Multi-Billion-Dollar-Investment-Alliance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mubadala_Investment_Company https://www.reddit.com/r/lakers/comments/1lewo40/windhorst_in_late_april_twg_global_mark_walters/ https://www.investmentnews.com/alternatives/nba-sovereign-wealth-workaround-abu-dhabi-backs-record-lakers-buyer/261006 And for clarity, no they don't own it but it is interesting that the NBA has a rule in place that limits sovereign wealth funds to no more than 5% minority ownership in an NBA franchise and then you have a very interestingly timed acquisition after a similar capital investment from a UAE state owned fund. |
