Matthew Stafford HOF?
Is he a future HOFer? Watching the game today and he’s approaching 60,000 passing yards. I know he’s won a Super Bowl. I tried searching for a Stafford thread but didn’t see one. I know how much you guys hate new threads lol.

yeah, for sure
|
Nope.
No all pros second or first team, just two pro bowls, no league MVP, one Super Bowl ring, no all decade team. And he put up 60,000 yards in an era of inflated passing stats. |
You'd think more modern passers would be approaching the 60k then, but nope.
Stafford is #10 currently and could be #5 by the end of the season. The only other actives in the top 20 overall are Russell Wilson & Joe Flacco, and they both need about 14,000 more yards to get to 60. Stafford is first ballot at this point. |
Yes, Stafford gets in.
|
If Joe Namath is in, then Stafford is a lock
|
He probably gets in, I don't think first ballot. A good barometer will be Phillip Rivers and Matt Ryan. All three will be top ten in yards and TDs. All three are likely in. Rivers has the most pro bowls, but nothing for post season, Ryan has a couple more pro bowls, super bowl appearance and MVP, Stafford could surpass both in stats and has the super bowl win. The all decade stuff was swallowed up with Brady, Brees, Rodgers, and Manning. All of whom are all time, all timers of course.
Edit: Stafford isn't going to catch Rivers in TDs. |
He's definitely getting in. This isn't even a question for me.
|
I think Stafford eventually gets in. His SB win will be key and once he surpasses Dan Marino in yards it will be tough to keep him out.

If Stafford plays a full season and puts up his normal numbers. He will be the seventh player in NFL history with 60k pass yards, 400 TDs, and a Super Bowl win.

If Eli didn't get in the first time, Stafford isn't getting in the first time. However, they will eventually get in.

Nope Dak isn’t either. You must not realize what Hall Of Fame voters look for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Does that even matter? Stafford played against some of the best QBs ever to play the team, the golden age of QBs I think most people would agree. And fair enough he wasn't the best of his generation or even 2nd best, that isn't a credible argument to keep him out of the HOF. Manning, Brady, Brees, Wilson, Rodgers, Mahomes overlapped with him. That's not counting Rivers, Ryan, Big Ben, E.Manning, Favre technically tail-end, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Burrow/Herbert/etc new wave. I think that is a ridiclous argument personally. The guy has a ring. He was a top 10 QB consistently his entire career up against everyone I just named. Was he elite? Maybe fringe, maybe top 5-6 in some seasons. Was Warren Moon better? I think winning the SB is king for QBs and you have to be astronomically good to get in without that (Marino). Stafford was better than Ryan and Rivers consistently across his career, Ryan might have had a better peak with the MVP and media hype, but he choked in a SB. Stafford won a ring with LA and spent the majority of his career with a dumpster franchise. To me Stafford is a no brainer HoFer |

You must not realize what Hall Of Fame voters look for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well the difference might be that Dak is trash and overrated despite being considered fringe top 10 for years. What has Dak ever done in the playoffs? Zero rings, zero NFCCGs despite playing for a top 5 OL his entire career basically with some stud WRs and some good overall rosters. Stafford was stuck in Detroit for 90% of his career. If Dak made some incredible playoff run and won a SB then we could talk, but obviously the other guy was trolling and we shouldn't even speak about Dak and HoF in the same sentence. |
If Eli didn't get in the first time, Stafford isn't getting in the first time. However, they will eventually get in.
I think Stafford has a better case than Eli arguably. For the record, I am a Patriots fan. Since the 90s, pre-Brady initially. I would absolutely vote Eli Manning into the HoF, he is a hall of famer. Two rings, incredible playoff performances and runs, beat the best roster/team ever in the SB, etc. Stafford more consistently has been a top 5-10 QB and was/is probably the better QB. 1 ring. And the impetus for this entire discussion seems to be all-time passing yards, and it also seems that HoFers are heavily voted in based on that. Stafford is 10th all-time and will pass Marino this year and get to 6th-7th place if he doesn't get hurt. Eli is 11th and done. For what that's worth, again, HoF voters care about it apparently. |
You answered your own question when you said he was the best or second best of his generation hence he’s not a hall of famer.
No I didn't answer any questions. Troy Aikman is a HoFer no? So is Elway. Both were better than Marino and Favre? Steve Young? All 5 of those QBs are in the Hall of Fame. There's your answer. (Toss Moon in too, he's also in the HoF) |
Aikman has 3 rings, Elway two.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What? You just said it had to be best or second best of their generation. Now we're counting rings? Okay well, Marino had 0. Moon 0. Young 3. Favre 1. So there were 6 guys from that generation who made it and two didn't have rings. Moon is flimsy and not a HoFer to me, he's like a Rivers/Ryan getting in, but I digress. Kurt Warner is already in. Peyton is in. 1 ring and 2 rings. Those were the next generation and we already have two HoFers. Those were the 1st and 2nd? Well no obviously, we have Brady 7 rings. And now tell me how many out of: Rodgers 1 ring. Wilson 1 ring. Eli 2 rings. Big Ben 2 rings. Stafford 1 ring. Brees 1 ring. Rivers 0 rings. Ryan 0 rings. Are going to be omitted? Obviously we're going to see at least 5-6 of those guys minimum make it into the HoF. Probably 6-7 counting Brady. Long story short, if you were an excellent QB, top 10 range most of your career and won a ring and racked up all-time counting stats you're probably getting in. Brees only has 1 ring, he's 2nd all-time in yards and TDs...is anyone trying to say he won't get in? He wasn't 1st or 2nd best of his gen. either. |
Pro Bowls used to matter. They really don't anymore. Tyler Huntley played a Pro Bowl lol

Aikman is in because he has three rings, if he just had one like Stafford he probably doesn’t get in. When I’m looking at who should get in I’m only comparing who they played against in their era. 2000-2025 Favre and Warner and Peyton Manning are in. Brady, Brees and Big Ben and Rodgers and Wilson will get in. Eli will eventually get in. Mahomes will get in. That’s who I compare Rivers, Stafford and Ryan to. Compared to those guys above they are not hall of Famers. I collect Hall of Fame autographs so I know how it works. You think All Pros and all decade don’t matter you are wrong. The guys that vote for those usually also have a hall of fame vote. They look at those accolades. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
