Windmills

Are you in favor of using windmills to generate electricity? Please answer in the poll.

He probably has a better chance than you seeing as how he lives in Texas. :coffee:

I am not very well versed in windmill energy but why is it such an issue? Isn’t it clean energy?

Opponents say they're ugly and kill lots of birds. :coffee:

they provide no real benefit and run on gas. just a dumb green energy scam.

IDGAS.

Darwinism for the bird population.

I just looked it up because your statement made me curious. According to multiple sources, it uses a negotiable amount of gas to power their own internal systems.

Saraste 01-15-2026 08:47 AM

I hate windmills.

You talking about wind turbines or windmills?

Crazy to research something. Most flock to FB or Instagram for their knowledge.

I wonder what the ROI for a wind turbine is compared to a mega sized dump truck hauling coal? Or a solar panel.

Maybe I’ll look it up.

oldgoldy97 01-15-2026 09:07 AM

Cats, glass buildings, vehicles, and power lines kill vastly more birds annually in the U.S. than wind turbines, with domestic cats alone causing billions of deaths, followed by hundreds of millions from windows and millions from cars and towers, while wind turbines account for a comparatively smaller number of fatalities, although they remain a serious concern for specific species and bats.

oldgoldy97 01-15-2026 09:07 AM

Save a bird, kill a cat?

The ocean ones have been demonstrated to wreak havoc on the US SOSUS network as well as US Navy ships and submarines trying to pick up signatures from foreign submarines.

Seeing people don’t know the difference is telling.

Pretty efficient way to grind some grain or pump some water, also good for burning Frankenstein's monster in one.

They are most certainly an eyesore - anyone arguing otherwise likes "modern" art and the grayscale conversion of our public areas

As for the birds, IDK - hard to imagine they have no impact, but also hard to imagine it's worse than fossil fuels for habit

glen87 01-15-2026 10:49 AM

Windmills do not produce electrical energy but rather use mechanical energy—originally to grind grain in grist mills.

The first wind turbine used to generate electricity dates from 1887—merely five years after Thomas Edison developed the first electric power station running on coal.

glen87 01-15-2026 10:51 AM

maybe someone up at that institution in ithica is working to develop a windmill that produces electricity, and hairy is in on the secret project
