eBay Purchase Received in a PWE -- What Would YOU Do?
I already know the answer (at least for me), but it's the first time this has happened to me and I thought it would be interesting to get the perspective of the community at-large.
Recently purchased a < $10 card, auction listed w/ free shipping. Received the card in a PWE, no cardboard sandwich, nothing ... just penny sleeve / top loader in an envelope. To be clear, the card was received quickly and as described. Consider yourself as the buyer. How do you respond? Do you leave a positive and move on? Do you courteously contact the seller and let him know that this is generally considered bad business (even though he's got solid feedback)? Or do you leave, say, neutral feedback with a note? It's generally a question of whether it's the buyer's responsibility to rate a seller based only on the transaction, or if it is the buyer's larger responsibility to warn the community about poor business practices. I already know my answer ... but I want to know what you would do. |
to me it is a positive, maybe a slight DSR ding, and a note with my feedback just to be aware or this
|
If the card wasn't damaged and received as describe with FREE Shipping I would leave a positive and move on. If he charged you for shipping then ding him in the DSR.
|
I wouldn't be a baby about it.. if there was no problem grow a pair and move on.
|
Was it a PWE or non-machinable? Either or, I have never had an issues shipping or receiving over 300 of these. As long as people aren't shipping high value cards in PWE, shouldn't be an issue.

No issues and move ob
|
Positive, all 5 DSRs, especially since it was free shipping. Even if he charged you $5 for shipping and handling, as long as the card arrived safely there should be nothing but 5 stars left. Shipping charges are known upfront and factored into the price you bid.

Especially since just a couple dings in DSR will kill a seller for good. |
What is your complaint? Was it damaged? No. This is a ridiculous thread.

this! as long as you got it A-OK and free ship, not much you can base a neg/DSR ding on. unless of course he stated in his original listing it would be shipped in a bubblemailer. |
No harm no foul, why complaint? Especially card arrived fast & safe and FREE SHIPPING.
|
If no issues with damage or overcharged shipping then positive & move on. Did the description say shipped in bubble mailer?
|
Alright, you guys have quickly validated my decision. I was caught somewhere between "leave a positive and move on" and "who gives a crap". I guess I'm tainted by the general consensus to never ever ever ship in a PWE. Was just a little surprised is all.
If no issues with damage or overcharged shipping then positive & move on. Did the description say shipped in bubble mailer?
I didn't even read the description for shipping method, didn't think I had to. I know now :) |

If someone charged me $5 for shipping and used a PWE, you can bet that the seller will take a hit on the shipping charge dsr. But in this case, since the shipping was free, just positive, 5 stars, and move on. |
It was Free Shipping and he still at least used a sleeve/top loader with the PWE.
I see no issue. I could see an issue if YOU had to pay extra money at your PO for additional postage, but other than that, clean transaction |
I look at it from the opposite perspective. If he wants to take that risk more power to him. If anything is wrong with my card I'm gonna nail him for it because it wasn't the smartest move sending it that way. But if it comes in fine condition like yours did, well congratulations to him he dodged a bullet no harm no foul.

As long as you get the card with no damage honestly who cares?? Is it a smart shipping process? probably not but hey if the card arrives fine. Positive Feedback and move on.

I agree, and as friarbolt suggested, if the seller is consistently shipping this way he will eventually have some cards damaged and have to deal with that. |
If the seller offered free shipping you can't ding shipping cost on the DSR's anyways, eBay automatically gives a 5.

I voted for "Who gives a crap?"
|
I am shocked this has never happened before. It happens to me at least 3-4 times a week. I do get cards daily but still. It seems very common practice. I'll be honest, anymore if the cards to damaged I don't care. I don't even bother to look and see what I paid because I never overpay in that department. It's always factored into my price. Why let myself get upset? The only time I ever got real angry about it was when a 1/1 came in a penny sleeve and PWE without even a toploader. Now that was worth a rant.
|
I would probably
1. Rip my shirt off 2. Throw a fit of rage 3. Pull off my finishing move and finally.. Ask you to take your daily vitamins and do your prayers! |

Yet you responded. |
I've gotten a ton of these as a buyer. Since shipping is free, I think nothing of it and leave a positive. Once in a while I get them where the card has slipped out of the toploader and I send a message recommending a teambag or masking tape but there hasn't been damage so I don't ding them.
I'd never do it as a seller because scammers will jump all over a PWE but as a buyer it's great, I get cards I'm looking for, and probably wouldn't otherwise buy, for cheap. BTW, most recently I got 4 2012 Topps Chrome Red Refractors (#/25) in a PWE. Was a little surprised at that but they were all fine so no harm, no foul. |

Ridiculous doesnt mean ignored. |
