Gregory Polanco potential?
 

is he at his peak already? seems to sell pretty high for a Pirate

Def. not at his peak. Pleny of room to make money. However he's on the pirates and even Andrew McCutchen sells pretty low for how good of a player he is.

Really any Pirate auto in 2013 Bowman is pretty good, especially Polanco and Hanson.

I bought in....more then i usually do. I think he has alot of room to grow.

better potential than soler as far as prospecting? Considering either a Soler base chrome auto or Polanco Ref

If it's me I go with a Soler AU. He plays for the Dodgers and he's a big time prospect. That's me .02 cents

They call him baby Heyward. Not sure if that is a good thing. Seriously, he has the tools. Power should come later.

Believe me when I say this, he is a beast. I have the opportunity to watch him play here in Bradenton and he is as exciting a player as I've seen for the Marauders. I was lucky enough to pull both Polanco and Hanson autos in 2013 Bowman.

I just don't see him staying with the Pirates though. McCutchen, Marte and Polanco are all true centerfielders. It would be nice to have them all in the outfield at the same time but then what do you do with Josh Bell. I think he will be a trading chip at the deadline, since they would not trade Taillon or Cole. I think they can get a really good return on Polanco.

Polanco is good, I think better than Marte. He is also a bit on the older side for prospects in A ball. He is older than guys like Soler, Bogaerts, Taveras, Pederson. The FSL is a pitcher-friendly league, so his numbers there are a bit more impressive. I'd still rather buy one of the guys at AA (or higher) producing solid numbers at a younger age.

You are correct with FSL being pitcher friendly. The way I look at it is when I moved down to Sarasota in 2008 I had the pleasure of watching Mike(Giancarlo) Stanton with the Jupiter Hammerheads. He was head and shoulders above everyone else. I do see the same things in Polanco and Sano though. I'm not saying Polanco is equal to Stanton but he does not look lost down here and has been hitting the off speed stuff.

It is fun watching him play and I do think where ever he ends up he will contribute at the major league level. Maybe Torii Hunter potential.

Polanco is a full year younger than the average age of position players in the FSL. And the FSL is A+ ball.

This right here IMO...word for word...except I do not get to see him play....

He will be 22 in September. I feel that he is a tad bit old in high A for being a "top prospect". I hope he will be in AA by the end of the season.

Yes, but most of the top prospects in that league are a year younger than Polanco. Who cares what the average player age is in the FSL? The majority of a team's roster is made up of organizational players that will never sniff playing time in the majors.

Stanton was by far the best I've seen in the Southern League too. I'd put Braun and Longoria up there too.

Because the age of other top prospects is irrelevant; they are all on different developmental paths so to say he's young for the league but older than other top prospects is a pointless statement. His competition is 1+ years older (pitchers are older than hitters in the minors) and that is what matters.

Polanco stands out down here in Florida. Remember some of the pitchers down here have a 4 year head start if they went to college and yes some of the hitters have that same advantage.

Again the only thing I can say is Polanco is right there with some of the better hitters I've seen come through the FSL. That includes Stanton, Yelich, Sano, Castellanos etc.

I pulled one of his '13 Bowman Red Ref Autos and I think i'm going to hang on to it for a while. Maybe in a year or two I can hit it big if he turns out to be a big time player.

And Polanco's 3 previous years of pro ball don't count?

Yelich was 20, Stanton was 19, Castellanos was 20, and Sano just turned 20. Polanco is 21 and will be 22 at the end if the year. He is on a similar track as many college hitters, and I'd like to see him at AA soon.

You are still missing the point. Polanco is older than many of the other TOP prospects in the FSL. The other top guys are his peers, not the older career minor leaguers filling out the rosters.

I am not saying he is not a good player. He is good, and has great tools.
