Cleaning Silver
Is It Ok To Clean Silver Coins/Rounds That Are Not Legal Tender?
|
I personally wouldn't recommend it as it actually can hurt their value believe it or not...
|
whether you melt clean silver or dirty silver its one price....so melt doesn't matter I guess it would come down to a collectors market for the rest
|
Depends what it is, if it is a generic round I would think it doesnt matter but the coins with large premiums it might not be the best idea. Just my 2 cents

Thanks For The Helpful Feedback Everyone

I dont bother to clean my silver but my two cents:
US Minted Coins - I wouldnt clean em - someone on ebay will pay a premium regardless of condition - there is a difference between "dirty" (old gum, caked on dirt, etc) vs. toning - many collectors will pay a heavy premium for well toned coins and cleaning will strip that (and the original finish) off the coin Bullion (generic rounds/bars) - clean em if the dirt or toning bothers you to look at but people arent likely to grade these and therefore they are worth spot plus a small premium, no need to put lipstick on a pig |
