As someone "in the biz", I can confirm there is more truth to this than not. It doesn't mean all these books get made into a movie...not by a longshot..it just means that certain companies want to grab the rights to it before another company does..you know, just in case.... again most never see the light of day |
This is true, grabbing rights never means a movie..It means they have the option should it come up..Its a smart way of guaranteeing they have the first rights to it, should they chose too make a movie or show

It can also be viewed as a big game of Take Away. They know that by optioning it, their competition can't do anything with it while they let the property stew in a closet with hundreds of others. |
Yep, all you have to do is look at some of the movies out. They held a Texas Chainsaw movie until matthew mc, and rene zele were famous then released it. They can film a movie and let it sit in the can on a shelf forever. Kinda sux, the philosophy is we have it, they can't make it, we'll do what we want with it..
