Your base cards???

What does everyone do with their base cards?

1. Do you keep them and try to make a set?

2. Do you throw them in a box and put in a closet?

3. Do you sell them?

4. Do you give them away?

5. If you do keep them all do you organize them into separate boxes or years?

Just wondering what everyone dose with them.

thanks

I throw them in a box then a closet, I would like to sell all of them as a lot, need to organize them and estimate how much they cost.

ok, i am not alone.

yeah I did the same thing for years. Now I am paying for it. I just pulled all of my cards out of the closet which take up half of our computer room. My wife got mad because it was full of cards and she couldnt put anything in there. so I have started to go thru each individual card and I am trying to make sets and will probably try to get rid of all my doubles.

Has anyone tried to put all of their sets (or sets in progress) in binders and pages?

The Binders are nice, but take up way to much room in my opinion. All of mine are in 5000 ct monster boxes, sleeved and sorted (or atleast this is the goal). Sets are boxed off, marked, and set aside for future use.

I'll usually take the base cards and send them either to CHKD or Ronald McDonald House or some place like that in my area.

I take some to local schools and my childs day care.

i've found that commons are good for starting camp fires.

has anyone had any luck donating them as a tax writeoff?

I tried to read thru the code (not a tax lawyer or a CPA) and it seemed that there is a cap (not sure if it is annual or lifetime) before you need to have a collection (baseball cards are in the same category as fine art I believe) professionally appraised. I want to say $3,000.

I have them sorted by year and product and only keep the guys I know, of value. Once the monster box is full I sell on eBay. Clears some space and brings in some cash. Currently, my football collection in up; 2100+ cards.:flex:

Monster boxes

Do the Monster boxes full of name players sell pretty good?
