Jordan Zimmerman trade?
There's a rumor Nationals and Cubs are taking about Jordan Zimmerman. Nats want a 2nd baseman and Cubs have plenty candidates to offer. I'd do Baez before any of the others or Alcantara but I'd rather keep him over Baez to be honest.

It would require at least Baez+ another of the big 6 IMO
|
Oh no, please keep Jzimm!

Theo ain't messing around. This would be a coup.

Cubs, Nationals Discussing Jordan Zimmermann Deal
By Jeff Todd [November 11, 2014 at 8:04pm CST] The Cubs are engaged with discussions with the Nationals to acquire right-handed starter Jordan Zimmermann, reports Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Tribune. Talks are serious enough that the sides have exchanged names that would be involved, with at least one top young middle infield likely to be part of the package. Importantly, per Wittenmyer, Chicago would want to be able to ink Zimmermann to an extension in order to pull the trigger. The Relativity Baseball client reportedly rejected a five-year, $85MM contract proposal from the Nats last year, and his value has only risen as he is one year closer to free agency after a stellar 2015. |

I'm no Cubs fan, but I would happily part with Baez, Castro or Alcantara if this trade centered around any of them. Zimmermann is legit. |

This.... Nats need him in the rotation. |

As long as Baez is the only big name to go it would be a steal but if it's more than just Baez and were only getting zim back it would be stupid. |
My favorite player on my favorite team. Would love to see it honestly. Just wondering who would be dealt between Baez, Castro, or Russell.

Would be very surprised if it was Russell. |

See now I would be very surprised if it was Baez. Castro is proven to be a very serviceable SS and would probably transition just fine to the 2B position in our nation's capital. |
If he only has year left, it might only take Baez and something small
Hope Cubs get Zimmermann |
Zimmermann is really the best pitcher on the Nats staff at the moment no doubt a bout it.
|
The cubs will gladly give up castro for zimmerman :)

Don't be so sure. 7 years of an all star SS 1 year of an all star SP Only way Castro is in the deal I believe is if Zim signs extension (think Cubs want him to either way) but I think that's only way Castro is in the deal. |

The Nats fans or Cubs fans? If I'm a Cubs fan I'm getting excited because they already have a lineup to make the playoffs, with four middle infielders for just two spots, so their pitching is the only thing keeping them out of the picture, well that an inexperience. EDIT: I assume you mean Nats, well I see where you're coming from but they have so much pitching and if they aren't resigning him anyways they might as well get back a serious impact bat for him. |

I think it would make sense for both teams, i'd say the Nats would be making out better most likely but that is purely speculation due to the lack of names we have. |

7 years left on his contract and he's an all star SS. you probably thought I meant 7 year All star SS. |
The key to everything is if he agrees to an extension. I don't think the Cubs would give up Castro, Russell, or Baez without it. If he doesn't agree to an extension I would think the Nats would rather make a run with him (and the rest of their great staff) next year and then take the comp pick when he rejects their QO. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah it was phrased weird. Ill take Zimmerman though over Castro. We need an ace like him more than we need Castro. I'd do that deal as long as we can sign Zimmerman to a 5 year extension |
No way the Nats trade Zimmermann for just Baez... they already have a swing and miss SS... they don't want another all or nothing middle infielder.
My two cents... |
What would the Nats do with Baez if they got him? With Rendon at 2nd and 3rd, is Zimmerman staying at 3rd or moving to the outfield? There would be no space.
I would trade baez and a few smaller pieces for zimmerman all day...they got addruss and castro |
