Beckett grading "subjectivity" is an outright lie....
 

So I've been submitting to Beckett a lot lately. Been hitting about 20-25% of my orders as pristine 10s, not hard considering that many pack fresh cards nowadays have pretty good quality control. On average, about 1.8 of the 4 subgrades of each card I submit hit a 10. Obviously you need at least 3 10 subgrades and at least a 9.5 on the 4th subgrade to get a pristine overall. Which brings me to my latest order. In fact, I think I'm going to give something away to the first person who guesses the answer to the following question correctly....

I submitted 14 cards in my last order....all but 2 of them from 2015 issues. And not difficult to grade 2015 issues like NT, but piece of cake stuff like Bowman and Finest, where half of cards end up pristine, it seems.

My 14 cards had 56 subgrades. How many subgrades out of 56 got a 10.0? Not how many cards ended up graded pristine 10 overall. Just subgrades. How many subgrades got a 10.0?

Why is their subjectivity an outright lie? I don't see this addressed in your post.

I'd say you got 25 sub grades as a 10.0.

I dont think any would. Ive submitted THOUSANDS of cards this year alone. Do you think someone at beckett is "out to get you"?

Correct, fellas. ZERO. 14 modern cards, including a half dozen 2015 finest. And not a single subgrade reached 10.0 on a single card. That's not subjectivity, that's just wrong. Even a product with little quality control like 1952 topps, you could submit 14 pack fresh right now and you'd get at least some 10 edges or 10 surface.

Well, this is my first order since Beckett had to issue me a refund for damage to an order....so you tell me. I omitted that part, because I didn't want to plant the bias that I felt once I received this order's grades.

I've got a good eye for cards and how they grade in general, as do you. Do you think you could submit 14 modern cards and not one of them would get a single 10 subgrade. It's mathematically improbable to the point of impossible.

I'll go with zero

But I fail to see how this will prove that their grading is or isn't subjective.

Been there, done that. I've had several shipments like that. And that's with the aid of my trusty loupe.

I think its VERY possible actually. It happens man.

I LOVE how some people have conspiracy theories that grades are being "given away" and others have some that they are "under grading" the cards.

I guess that probably means they are fair. :/

That has to be a pissed off grader then...I almost feel like cracking and resubmitting the whole order just to see how many I get, and then go to the press with this if I get my usual results.

I've got a big stack of cards here that I planned to submit in my next order. I guess they'll be going to the B/S/T in raw form this week instead.

What was the breakdown of 9.5s, 9s and less on the overall grades?

I just don't consider 14 cards to be a large enough sample size to prove anything.

Since I expected 20-25 subs of 10, I could understand standard deviations from the mean. Maybe even 2 deviations. But if it was like only a couple subgrades hit 10, I'd feel super unlucky. ZERO is a whole different thing altogether.
