*2016 San Francisco GIANTS Season Discussion Thread*
Baseball season soon to start...wooooo. I see the "official" season threads getting posted for teams, I made one for the Giants last year because I noticed there wasn't one. And I guess I've made this one for the same reason now. :p (sorry if you were about to post one and had glorious videos and graphics and charts or something all designed for the epic post) - (or if I am just blind and missed this thread already existing buried somewhere deeper than search took me.)
As of right now the opening day 25 man roster for the San Francisco Giants appears to be: Catchers Buster Posey Trevor Brown Infielders Ehire Adrianza Brandon Belt Brandon Crawford Matt Duffy Joe Panik Kelby Tomlinson Outfielders Gregor Blanco Angel Pagan Hunter Pence Denard Span Starting pitchers Madison Bumgarner Matt Cain Johnny Cueto Jake Peavy Jeff Samardzija Relievers Santiago Casilla Cory Gearrin Chris Heston George Kontos Javier Lopez Josh Osich Sergio Romo Hunter Strickland |
Will Denard Span start?
Will Denard Span start?
Should be starting in CF, Blanco is 4th man, and they are going pitcher heavy and Brandon Belt/ Ehire Adrianza as coverage for 5th man outfielder potential. Span had a sore shoulder at one point, but came back and was playing so, I assume as of right now he's good to go. Span CF, Pagan LF, Pence RF. Denard Span, make me cool as Buster https://youtu.be/RuRKetNxHPc |
GO GIANTS!!!

Also, Pence has looked great this spring from what I saw. Expecting a big season for him.
|
I really like Ray Black, hopefully we call him later this year
|
Welcome back ladies and gents. We are in the midst of an even year so I'm expecting big things. I'm hoping Belt and Pence can carry their spring over to the regular season. The rotation has looked pretty dicey so far. I'm hoping that's just a spring thing.
|
Posey adds another MVP this year, calling it.
|
Don't see much pop, but they will get on base enough to manufacture runs. Back of the rotation is a little frail, but Heston and Blackburn could step up if needed. I would not be surprised if the even even year thing happens

Wow, I hadn't seen those. The whole channel is gold... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpXMHgjrpnynDSV5mXpqImw |
Congrats... it's an even year. lol

Bochy says tonight's lineup is probably the preview for how the lineup will be opening day with the pitcher batting 8th:
Span CF Panik 2B Posey C Pence RF Belt 1B Duffy 3B Crawford SS Samardzija P Pagan LF |
In those championship runs, the Giants always had a guy with some sneaky pops in their lineup: Huff, Ross, Burrell, and Morse. I was hoping that Williamson or Parker would make the team to have some pop in their lineup. Regardless of that, the Giants key to success this year is health. If they are healthy, they should be in great shape to make some noise.

I was hoping that Mac would make it too, but I think he showed that he can contribute and play against Major League pitching and may have moved up in the depth chart ahead of Parker. He might still get called up in May. |
Congrats... it's an even year. lol
Bingo!!!!!! |
I also think they'll take it all this year. Getting Cueto will be big and it'll be an easier path to the division after the lackluster moves the Dodgers made over the Winter.
|
Belt will have a big year !! GO GIANTS !!!
|
I don't know how I feel about Cain being #2. I really want him to return to glory.

I believe you mean "I don't know how I feel about Cain being #5." |

Yeah, let's hope he doesn't pitch like #2 again. |
Opening Day Lineup / 1110 PST Start Time
1 - Span / CF 2 - Panik / 2B 3 - Posey / C 4 - Pence / RF 5 - Belt / 1B 6 - Duffy / 3B 7 - Crawford / SS 8 - Bumgarner / P 9 - Pagan / LF Of course I just found out that I have a meeting at 1400 CST, going to miss this game. |
Woo I woke up before noon!
Uh oh, the start of this game feels too much like sliding right back into last season, bases loaded for the Brewers in bottom of the first. (Bum on the verge of walking in a run) (did it) Ryan Braun looks like a blow up doll or an alien or something to me; maybe my Internet connection was slowing down and warping him? Giants take the lead, Matt Duffy getting his first two RBI of the year, first Giants runs of the year (Pence reached on an error, Belt doubled, Duffy almost doubled, got thrown out going for second.) |
Pagan (left field) throws out the runner at home plate, announcer "that's the best ten hopper I ever saw." (it was 4-ish hops :P)
This has basically been another spring training game for the starting pitchers. 1st Giants HR of the season = Matt Duffy! |
I'm loving this lineup!
|
Watching game cast, glad Bumgarner was able to battle through 5. Lineup is looking swell.
Is this the big year from Belt:D |
