Horrible Experience (Press Pass Redemption)
I'm really crushed right now. I'm sure a lot of people reading this have had similar experiences with dreaded redemptions. I generally try to avoid older products with known redemptions, but in this case, it did not occur to me that the best autograph in the product was going to be a redemption.
I am in the midst of my worst streak of bad luck since I got back into cards about 3 months ago and then this happens... I was doing 2011 Press Pass Legends pack breaks trying to get all the hits out of the box. All along I'm obviously hoping for Cam Newton, Julio Jones or AJ Green since those are the big names from the 2011 draft. So the first couple hits come out and fortunately one of them was a Michael Irvin auto /50 which is cool but when you are paying $6.50/pack that is not the card you are hunting. Two hits later the breaker unveils a player with a Penn State helmet and below that a redemption sticker where the autograph would normally be. I'm already expecting the worst and then when he flips the card over it is confirmed... CAMERON NEWTON This is the first redemption I've pulled that I can't do anything about. I've also pulled some low end 2007 Contenders redemptions but from what I have been told Panini still honors those. Is there ANY chance that I can somehow redeem this card? Even if its for a replacement? And If not now, maybe in the future? |
Why don't you just email them and try to talk to a customer service rep

That's why you gotta do your homework, man.
Anytime you buy older wax you need to figure who the redemptions are before you decide to purchase or not. Bummer. |

Yep, your out of luck. What sucks worse is that they were the best at redeeming expired redemptions. That's why any old Fleer basketball is a total crapshoot. |

Sadly nothing can be done. Before they went out of business they would have helped you out. They had the best CC in the business. They closed the doors and actually they just announced they were shutting down completely one day. So I don't think people who had redemptions got anything.
Which stinks because I loved their Legends sets. |
That's a tough one. Redemptions and sticker autographs are really the worst. i get that it is part of the deal, but still...

shop owner should have warned you about that before you bought it if he knew. Did he do anything for you after you pulled it
|
Ummm Penn State?

so many things wrong with this post lol

That would be an excellent card to pull!! |
Ummm Penn State?
Its a non licensed product so they can't have logos so his auburn helmet is all white with a blue jersey..it does look like Penn state at 1st glance. Sorry op but at least the product is cheap and the cam isn't worth much plus the company is out of business....its not like topps or upper deck who have some redemptions worth thousands and if they are expired they tell you to f off even though they are still in business. |
Sorry - They won't do anything because they don't exist!!!
|
Well you guys pretty much confirmed what I expected to hear unfortunately.
At this point, I am thinking I might as well send it in to the freakin Carolina Panthers and hope for a miracle because at least there's a chance of a miracle while there is no chance of all with Press Pass since they do not exist. Not to mention, if you saw how this particular redemption card looked: So if there is ANY good news to come from this I guess I would rather it be an actual card with a sticker on it than one of those pieces of cardboard with redemption code because IF I was ever lucky enough to get Cam Newton's autograph - whether in person or in the mail - it would be just as authentic if I took off the sticker and was able to get Cam Newton to sign the card directly with a sharpie assuming the sticker does not take any of the picture off with it.. And sorry if my OP was misleading but I did not buy it from a shop, I bought it from a Live Breaker website and I always know there are redemptions in these products but A) I had RARELY seen redemptions in Press Pass i mean almost never! and B) I thought IF there was a redemption it would not be the #1 rookie in the product. But that is no excuse because I was going for Cam so I should have double checked. BUT the breaker did feel so bad for me that he refunded me for 2 packs lol not that it was much consolation since I purchased most packs in the box and honestly there aren't too many ways they can make you feel better in that case. |
I just noticed the name at the bottom of the card
DJ Kazmierczak Sr. Vice President at Press Pass, Inc. DJ is now VP of Sales/Product Development at Panini America I suppose it's good to know that at least the Senior VP at Press Pass at the time is still in the business with the top company, even if press pass is out, and my hopes have gone up just a tad bit (which is not saying much because it was close to completely hopeless before this) I am not sure how likely it is that I will hear back from DJ, much less hear back with good news, but I will keep everyone posted because if I have ANY type of success here I would think it's potentially good news for anyone else with Press Pass redemptions. That said, I do not know how long he was with the company, but he certainly had an important role in 2011. Stay tuned... |
Throw it on ebay. Some unredeemed, and redeemed, cards go for some good money
|
If your call proves fruitful, I'm going to board a British Airways' flight with a Baltimore metro bus pass.

Shop owner does not owe him anything on a sealed box. That's a risk with older products. Not sure how this would rate as a horrible experience seems more like an uninformed purchase. |

************ UPDATE ************
On April something - after half the respondents in this thread pretty much told me "don't even bother, it ain't gonna happen" - I wrote:
I just noticed the name at the bottom of the card DJ Kazmierczak Sr. Vice President at Press Pass, Inc. The same type of e-mail that you get from them when they ship one of your redemptions, except this one was different, it was literally labeled: Request Type: Good Will Fast forward to today... and this shows up in my mailbox: So, like it or not, that's why you never give up and if there is ANY lead, I don't care how much of a long shot it might seem like, you pursue it. |

I think it's just a euphemism for him getting raped in the whole situation. Hole situation? |
Awesome.. That's is some good will!!
