Agreed even a basic Google search would bring up something FB, Linkedin etc as someone mentioned above contact his local PD. Nobody forgets about $10k so he's been MIA which going from what you said, his last response to contact was 2014? BTW did any of the mail you sent to his address come back to you as RTS or anything??
Is he military or anything?
Or possibly something bad has happened to him. Pretty horrible to think but I agree his local PD is the best place to start.
