1909-11 T206 EPDG Cy Young Portrait SGC 3 to SGC 5.5 (w/ PWCC-PQ sticker)
Alteration types: Chemically whitened, significant stain removal

Consigned to PWCC and sold on 10/14/2018 as a SGC 5 for $10,802.00
Final price: $10,802.00
Value gain: $6,042.00!

Here's a recently-graded SGC 5.5 that had a significant brown stain removed from the lower left hand corner of its front (see red box). The process to remove this stain was some form of chemical wash. I circled in blue Cy Young's head in the portrait to show the extreme color loss from the SGC 3 to the SGC 5.5. The red color, which gave the fleshy tones their life, have been washed away by the card doctor. Yellow circles show areas of common wear, paper fibers and/or print defects which allow the photo matching of this card.

This card is important for a couple of other reasons. First, it is the first time, to my knowledge, a card altered by the PWCC card doctor was purchased from Sterling. Second, the sale of neither the SGC 3 nor the SGC 5.5 appear in the Vintage Card Prices database, which is likely just an anomaly, but is worth mentioning. I'm not even sure if VCP tracks data from Sterling. It should.
