That was a whole different story. ECW was already a dead company for 5 years by the time WWE revived it, plus by the end of it's run it was really a good precursor to NXT as a brand that was essentially developmental until WWE felt the guys were ready to go on to one of the two main shows. It actually got a lot better once it stopped trying to be a watered down version of ECW and became it's own thing. It just should have never used the ECW name.
That being said, it feels like it's only a matter of time until NXT loses everything about it that makes it unique and they succumb to WWE writing to make it feel just like Raw or Smackdown and wild card the hell of it so they can put "real stars" like Baron Corbin on there.
