There's one thing I learned from the baseball "buyer's club" shenanigans.
It doesn't matter how they jack up the price every minute of the auction until the last minute. If somebody wants that card, that's the price they have to pay.
They do their magic on cards with low pops, so this is no different.

I've benefited from the buyers club pumping before (Trout 2011 Update) and been burned trying to accumulate cards they were pumping (86 Bonds Tiffany) before. I personally think it's messed up the way they can set the market pricing for a handful of cards by shilling ebay auctions, but like I said, if they shill it to $1500 and a legit bidder pays $1501, that's the new going rate.
