My guess is that they expect the digital card to be sold/traded in the digital realm.
- Guy buys first digital card and gets the physical copy
- Guy sells the digital card in their marketplace
- To release the funds, Panini request the digital copy and then sends it to the new owner
Everything outside of that will be out of the scope of the release.
It's far from perfect but at least it's a positive for the digital trading game.
