This plays out on both sides of the political aisle, but to a greater extent than ever with the Republican party during Trumps presidency. In attempting to dismiss the entirety of the "mainstream media," Trump has ironically pointed his voting base in the direction of literal fake news and hearsay evidence as justification for their political allegiance. Moderate Republicans, by continually not righting the misinformed beliefs of staunch Trump supporters, are inadvertently perpetuating the delegitimization of their own party's core beliefs.
