I think my big warning would be that from an economic perspective, Top Shot has every incentive to release increasingly significant moments week after week. If anyone is familiar with FIFA pack openings, which is perhaps the closest comparison to this that exists, the game slowly releases higher and higher ranked players month after month. Perhaps when the game releases a 85 ranking is the highest in the game. Then player of the week players release at 90, followed by player of the month players at 95. Then team of the year releases with players ranked up to 98 or 99. By continually raising the stakes, people continue to pump money into the game as they try to upgrade to the latest and greatest upgrades.

I understand that series 1 will always have some novelty, but unlike a players physical rookie cards, which decrease in value over time as his second and third year etc cards release, these moments are not being produced as they happen. Think of the moments which are popular now, and how they compare to all of the moments that have happened across basketball history.. I saw someone spend a great deal of money on a Lebron dunk, or a Herro layup. But these moments are all relative, like cards. How much will a Lebron dunk, which may seem like the best moment now, compare to him lifting a championship when that moment is released? Or any of his historic plays?

From an economic perspective they have every incentive to save these iconic moments until the end in order to sustain attention and interest. Just like FIFA packs. So I actually can see a scenario in which the value of things go up, at the cost of the moments that already exist today. Like FIFA, the 85 rated player has a ton of value when the game releases. But when the 99 rated players release, the 85 rated players don’t seem quite as attractive.

Just maybe something to keep in mind.
